it's not really about running 'far' it's about getting your heart rate up.

do some walking around your home even and when you feel too tired or after about 30mins stop. have a water bottle and drink plenty of water

go as far as you can for a steady oace til you get tired. its different for everyone depnding on how fit they already are. then they push themselves by going a few extra minutes each time til it gets easier. when it gets easier-thyat shows youve gotten more in shape or "fitter"

hey i started off bad at running before i started trainin lol :P all you need to do is go at a faster pace then walkin then say like a jog to the shops and stuff or with the dog then start to build up speed and distance till you feel confident about it :)

oh yeah and also at first it seems like alot of effort but then it becomes routine and it becomes you can see the diffence it keeps you motivated :P
