Which Shampoos/Conditioners Are Best For Long, Thin, Graying Brown Hair? I do NOT want to color it!

First, I love my long, thin brown hair that has lots and lots of gray. I do NOT want to color my hair. I need to find a shampoo and conditioner that will make the yellowish tones in the gray hairs turn white or silver or real gray while at the same time make my hair appear more full and thicker than it actually is. Can somebody help please? I will appreciate any feedback. Thank you!!!!!

Wella SP do a really Good silver shampoo which will take the yellow tones straight out. This is the one i always use on my clients. As for volume I would recommend a volumising products rather then a conditioner as these tend to way down gray hair too much.

The best thingto do is go to see your stylist as she can recommend the best product for you as we can not see the condition of your hair.

Hope this helped.

keep in mind long hair usually looks pretty flat because all of the weight holds it straighter and flater. drying upside down at the roots can sometimes help give some lift

and i'll also say you may love your natural color but you can look into rinces they just lightly put in colors (they sell a wide range at walmart from silver/blue, silver/grey to black) you just use them like shampoo after you condition

My mother's hair is thin and starting to get silver in some areas. I recommend her to use Nioxin. She really loves it. I have used it before as well, and I really liked it.

Thank you so much! I will check into that one. I do have many products to "pump up" my hair but don't like the way they feel. Most are really sticky. I have been using a volumizing conditioner, actual VO-5 Volumizing condition. It isn't bad but I would rather try something else. I will check on the net to find out about the Wella SP. Thanks again! I really appreciate your answer to my question. --CarolG

Thanks a bunch for your reply! I have tried the rinses before when my hair was more brown and they did just fine, but now that the gray is really "radiating," I didn't have a clue what to try since I have still have a lot brown left along with the gray. I will take a look at the rinse colors you are suggesting. Thanks for the trick about drying hair upside down. I started doing that a while back and now since my hair is so thin, I also spray hairspray in my wet hair before blow drying and that really seems to make it appear fuller. I also just started using ShaBo scalp "makeup" and talk about a miracle! That stuff is fabulous! Now, I don't have any totally bald spots yet (but I'm working on it unfortunately), my hairline around my face and also the top of my scalp are pretty thin. I just began using Shabo "scalp makeup" in Medium Gray not too long ago and my hair has been looking a much better lately but it isn't where I want it to be totally. I am going to check out the shampoos and rinses for graying hair. I can hardly wait for all my hair to get more salt and pepper if that's possible having brown hair instead of black. I appreciate your good advice and thanks again! --CarolG

I have seen that in the drug stores but didn't know if it would really work or not. Glad to hear you like it and it works for your mother too. Sounds like she and I could be twins with our hair. I haven't known anyone who actually used Nioxin until you. I will take a serious look at it again. I just bought Rogaine foam yesterday and am going to give that a try. I bought the old liquid Rogaine in the past and it made my hair and scalp so greasy, I just had to stop using the medicine dropper Rogaine. I am hoping the foam will be much better to use. Anyway, I don't mind getting gray, but I do want to keep the gray a white or silver instead of yellowish (although yellow does go with brown--smile). Thank you so much for your reply! --CarolG

No problem! You can try the smaller bottle of Nioxin first and see. My mom loved it so now her and my dad use it and they purchase the larger bottle. I also believe that my best friend; her father had cancer and after chemo he began using Nioxin and his hair grew back! amazing. so i would recommend this shampoo. I just do not really use it because it is pricey.
