a good way for that is use a new razor (i prefer disposable ones) every other use, and use a good shaving cream. if you want you can use baby oil it does a super dooper job but you have to toss your razor away after each use

I agree, it's very hard to get rid of irritation once you've got it. I've never found anything that will fix it quickly, I always have to wait it out and change my blade like BarbiPixi said. You can also try hair conditioner when you shave if you don't have shaving cream, and try not to press down too hard with the razor. If the blade's sharp, you won't need to! :) Taking shorter strokes rather than whole sweeps up the leg can sometimes help you even out the pressure you're putting on the razor, too.
