it's burnt and maybe not scalded burnt but the ends of your hair are the dryest and the easist to burn. when you straighten your hair don't let the iron set on the ends but for a second if at all

you can use a deep conditioner on them in the shower and give them extra attention with some olive oil but try not to expose them to heat if you can

burnt, try not holding it while near the end if you need to just lightly holding it at the ends.

oil protection DOESNT mean protection from heat. THERMAL PROTECTING PRODUCTS mean protection from heat. try hot off the press (paul mitchells brand new product), its meant especially for heat.

did you tried some natural methods, i think there's nothing more soothing for our hair than a deep conditioning treatment...more if you manage to rule out all the chemicals than it's more healthy....look at these tips you might find them pretty interesting...i tried the olive oil and egg and it's smashing really...i love it....

my hair guy does not recommend the bio-silk collection. he said that there is something in it that makes you, have to use it everytime and if you don't then your hair will feel worse. So I stopped... I now use Aveda products and some Nexxus. But the reason your hair is really frizzy on the bottom is that it is fried... when you got your hair cut you needed to tell them to cut off all the really fried and dried ends and split ends. Use heat protectant products from shampoos to conditioners to sprays before you flat iron your hair. If you find yourself using the flat iron everyday... you might consider doing the Permanent Japanese straightening.... I have done it once. my hair was straight straight for almost 2 years. I really liked it. I think you can now get it done in the states cheaper. It takes about 4 hours to do at the salon. ( I made sure I did the one with the least chemicals.... b4 the US version was kinda harsh, so when I went to Japan, I did it there bc their version was not like the US...not so much chemicals and lasted longer. but it was awesome.. i did not have to flat iron my hair... I could just shower then leave.... i have thought about doing it again..
