beacuse you have darker hair. you ca't go from any darker color to blonde without the hair stylist-he has to bleach your hair. if you do it at home, your hair will end up orange because that is what you get when you mix brown and blonde. those home hair colors don't have any peroxide and they don't bleach it, they just dye like all usual colors. and they are made for blondes that just want to change their shade of blonde varying from ash, light or honey blonde all the way to platinum

Of course you can still do it! (: The companies make blonde so they have more products to sell, it's all about the money, honey.

Blonde is a tricky thing to achieve if you don't already have it. You kind of have to go if you are going from a dark hue, you need to step up the shades in a gradual manner...not like black to white cause that will not work and it will kill the hair!

Now, red tones are hard to get rid of. It's tricky. You kind of have to bleach them out or your hair will always have a reddish tint to it.

you want to look for an ASH blonde it has more blue undertones rather than red undertones

my mom actually calls the company's and asked which one she should get because we have brown hair but some browns are more prone to have red undertones rather than some darker shades may have blue undertones.

the blonde bleaching will lighten your hair yes but if you have red undertones it will lighten your brown and let the red shade show.

if you use an ash it will lighten and also add a blue undertone to block out the red.
