Short hair = older look?

I'm 17 and for as long as I can remember I've looked younger than I am (shortass!). I've nearly always had long hair, too. I read somewhere that having shorter hair makes you look more mature. I really want to change my look and I think my hair will play a key part in it so I'm ready to have my haircut. So, generally, does shorter hair make you look older?

Also, what kind of short/medium styles are popular now?

Thanks. X

essentially any hair length could make you look older or younger. It mainly depends on the style. For example a short cut like the one in this pic that i'm attaching, although popular in asia would make anyone look young and cutesy (uhljjang style), not exactly older...but a different short cut such as a bob cut or something edgy, will have that maturity aspect, because it'll be less round in appearance, as in, the tips wouldn't be curled or twirled (usually giving the shirley temple look ) umm edgy look see pic 2

usually shorter hair makes you look younger. also more blunt cuts

stay away from bangs especally blunt cut

and all one lenght hair. layers will help elongate a face and give an older appearance

if you want to go shorter once agian stay away from a blunt bob you want something with some layers to give shape and elongate and a side bang is awesome

it really depends how you cut it. a layered cut always is more mature.. or a bob is very sophisticated.

nana 101 is correct. sophisticated looks are helpful, more "fixed" or "finished" looks are helpful. if you wanna go short what about the asymmetrical bob? its short, sophisticated but the different lengths give it a twist and keep it fresh and not too old

well you could either go with just a plain layered look, with the length to your shoulders maybe a little shorter, and when you style it you could tease it (back comb) , or you can try a bob

I am 21 and 5 foot tall. My hair is down to my ass. Me and my mates where messing around one day and put my hair up and put in short extensions i looked about 10 years old lol. So this is not the case.

The only way to look older is the way you present yourself and speak. People always say to me how old are you, i cant decide if you are 17 or 27 lol. Because i look young but act well old lol.
