How to Balance Love, Life and the Gym

A pitfall of the modern day is that the more things you have to do, the less time you have. Life is busy at the best of times. But, when you’re planning a wedding on top of your day job, on top of trying to get fit, on top of having a social life… Safe to say, finding a balance can be difficult.

Luckily, it’s not impossible to make a few simple changes to bring harmony to these different aspects of your life. Just ensure you do so before you burn out!

It may seem like the simplest solution possible, but why fix something that isn’t broken! Creating a strict schedule for yourself can seem exhausting, however, that little extra discipline can actually save you from undue stress. For one thing, it is the best way to ensure that all of your commitments are met without foregoing one for the other.

This can be a simple case of committing to an hour at the gym in the morning before work, then a two hour period every other evening where you sit down to plan a wedding or simply enjoy your partner’s company. ‘Date nights’ can also be a great way to set aside time for each other. It’s so easy to become lost in a busy schedule, so why not just schedule each other in and avoid the heartache!

If being organised isn’t one of your main skills, then creating a schedule is probably more painful than it’s worth. In which case, keep your gym kit next to the front door. This way, as you leave the house in the morning that spur-of-the-moment gym session can be easily accessible.

One aspect of balance that may be the hardest when it comes to the gym and life is budgeting. The gym and all of its accessories cost money, money which you may be trying to funnel into more pressing monetary concerns such as a wedding or house deposit. Finding a happy compromise is possible if you’re willing to make a couple of sacrifices.

Ultimately, to save money you need to spend it. This means buying quality workout clothes from the outset. Why? On top of the gym membership, constantly having to replenish your supply of workout clothes can be a real strain on your bank balance. So, take the plunge and buy a good pair of workout trainers (Nike are a good bet here), comfortable shorts and a muscle fit hoodie to add a little style to the ensemble.

Make Way for You-Time

The worst thing that you can do when trying to balance all of your life’s commitments is to forget about yourself. Yes, you need to go to work. Yes, a wedding/relationship needs daily effort. No, that doesn’t mean there isn’t time for relaxation and fun.

For some, this can mean going to the gym and losing themselves in the machines. For others maybe it’s a leisurely Sunday hike through beautiful landscapes. Whatever feels like a relaxing time for you, don’t be afraid to do! Work will still be there on Monday after all and so will your love.

Don’t Panic

So, the last minute meeting comes up or your grandma just has to have a cup of tea with you right this minute. You miss the opportunity to go the gym that day. Don’t sweat it (ironic as that advice may be). The world doesn’t stop, your life doesn’t fall to pieces and the gym is still standing by the time you get there the next day.

Panicking about things you can’t control is bound to create undue stress in your life, so avoid it all costs. Yes, trying to balance your love life, work life and getting fit can cause a few ups and downs. But, you’ll inevitably manage it so long as you keep a positive attitude!
