Learning To Love Yourself

In this exercise our aim is to get you in the habit of acknowledging all the good
things about yourself! All too often we are our own worst critics – but really we
should love ourselves, cherish ourselves and be our own best friend! Style
Coaching is all about becoming the best you can be everyday, loving yourself
inside and out and being comfortable and confident in your own skin.
Often people don’t like to look at their image in the mirror – they dislike everything
about their appearance because they can’t see the positives when all they can
focus on are the negatives.

So, ask yourself:
What do I love about myself? (Not just on the outside but inside too).

If I wanted someone to feel completely loved and cherished by me, what
would I do?

When was the last time you did this for yourself? Have you ever looked in
your own eyes in the mirror and said “I love you…” and really meant it?
Why not give yourself this gift? Why not acknowledge the good things about
yourself and give yourself a pat on the back when you deserve it? Why not
recognise the ways in which you are beautiful?

Every morning for the next week, take a moment or two to look in the
mirror and speak the words “I love you (your name)”. Tell yourself, out
loud, what you love about yourself – this could be anything: “(your name)
I love the way you take care of your children”, “I love the way you commit
yourself to helping others and make a warm family home”, “I love your
work ethic and responsible nature”, “I love the colour of your eyes and the
warmth of your face”, “I love, I love, I love…”
This might sound silly, but the point is that we need to start conditioning into
ourselves that we are good people, worthy of time, attention and kindness. Give
yourself sincere compliments; remember, the more you can give love to yourself,
the more you can give it to other people.

Start making a list of all the things you love about yourself and add to it
constantly.

Another very important exercise is to focus on your appearance,
recognising the parts of yourself that you think are good features and
thinking of ways that you can start to love features that you don’t
necessarily like at the moment. For example:
“I don’t like my hands – they are so rough and manly and my nails are so ugly”.
How could you learn to love this part of your body? Well, some find it useful
to think of what this body part has given them, such as with hands:
“My hands have given me the sensation of touch; I can feel so many things with my
fingertips, like the feeling of my baby’s first head of hair or the skin of a peach! My
hands make me able to do so many things; I can hold my lover’s hand, I can play
my violin, I can drive my car to go to wonderful places”. “I love my hands really!”
Or it can help to begin cherishing this body part by giving time to improving
it. For example, gently and lovingly moisturise your hands, while taking time to
caress them and give thanks for all the things you have been able to experience
because of your hands. You could give them a manicure and help them to look
feminine and well cared-for. With the help of a little TLC your hands should appear
improved from your changed perspective.
