What is the Difference Between First Class and Business Class?

What is the Difference Between First Class and Business Class?

The main differences between travelling in business class and first class are your seats and the service. Technically though there are no real specific airline industry standards. So if you want to ensure you’re getting what you’ve paid for, there’s some research provided by CheapFirstClass.com that needs to be done. There is a major difference between travelling first class on international flight and a domestic flight. Back on the ground many premium services are offered to both domestic and international travellers equally.

Domestic or International

Most domestic flights happen on a plane with two cabins, while first class and economy flights typically involve a three-cabin plane with a cabin for first, business, and economy class. There is a bit of a difference between travelling first class on a two-cabin plane and travelling first class on a three-cabin plane. Domestic first class doesn’t hold a candle to international first class. Sometimes these three-cabin planes will be used for domestic flights such as to get the aircraft where it needs to be for an international flight or because it’s a premium route; such as catching a plane to Los Angeles from New York.

International First Class

The international first class cabin is going to make airlines a lot of money, which is why they get all the best seats and service. Seats change all the time as each airline aims to make their seats more luxurious than their competition. The current first class seat can become a full, lie-flat bed so people on long flights can sleep comfortably. Airlines have also begun offering luxury pillows and duvets to make things even more comfortable. There are also entertainment options for first class customers including video on demand services and a large music library complete with flat-screen monitors for each seat. It doesn’t get much finer than first class international food and drink, with menus put together by celebrity chefs and wine combinations offered by sommeliers.

International Business Class

International business class isn’t quite as good as first class but it’s still better than domestic first class. All of the competition for passengers and the development of new technology for first class has made business class better as a result, despite the big price differences between first class and business class. The seats aren’t as good as they are in first class, but there are still many airlines offering life-flat seats as standard with premium air travel. The main difference between different airlines is whether their lie-flat beds really do lie flat at a 180 degree angle, or if they are tilted towards the floor a little. It’s becoming more common to find personal audio and video systems in business class as well, but the screens and selection is smaller than with first class. The food is still great in business class but it’s not quite as good as first class.

International Hybrid First and Business

Some airlines have begun offering a combination of first and business class with two-cabin planes handling an international flight. This is different than the first class experience you get with a two-cabin plane domestic flight. This hybrid of first and business class is just what you would expect given the name; a combination of different elements from both classes. The price of a hybrid class seat is the main feature. The services are much better than standard business class, but the fare is still much less than standard first class.

Domestic First Class

Domestic first class shouldn’t be confused with international first class. There are still advantages over flying domestic first class over economy though. The main difference is that domestic first class offers more leg room than economy. With your standard Boeing 757 the seats are arranged in a 3-3 configuration in economy while they are arranged 2-2 in first class. Many airlines are beginning to remove meals from economy class, but you can still get a good hot meal in first class, as well as the occasional free alcoholic drink.
