Some people know them as sheepskin coats, some people call them shearling coats, but no matter the name, we are talking about one of the biggest trends of this season. The world of fashion is based on a simple rule: the biggest designers create statement garments that become known in the whole world. Their clothes are reinterpreted by other designers who want to sell them for a smaller amount of money. And here comes the difference.
There are stores or persons who offer three types of shearling coats: the luxury ones, the mid-range ones and the low-quality ones. You may think that a garment that costs $50 is the same with one that costs $300, as long as they both look the same. We are going to tell you the difference between them. In the end, you are the one who’s going to decide what type of shearling coats you want to buy.
The warmth and the weight of shearling coats
First of all, you should know that luxury shearling coats will always have thinner leather and denser wool than an ordinary garment. This means they are as warm as the other ones, but weight less than them. The shearling coats were designed for the first time during the Second World War, being worn by the men who flew at high and cold altitudes into unpressurized cabins. They were heavy and rugged, but the technology has advanced and there are more options of shearling coats. For example, A&A Vesa luxury garments are thin, light and very warm so they can be worn even in the coldest days of the winter. They sell them at a bargain price because the products are sent to their customer directly from the factory, without being exposed into a physical store. The high-quality of Vesa shearling coats depends on where the sheeps were raised. They use fur from the sheeps raised in colder mountain climates (like Merino sheeps) which give thicker, finer wool for warmth.
The versatility of the shearling coats
Shearling coats are made of different unblemished sheepskins that are stitched together. Only an expert knows how to properly match them for equal weight, coloring and wool density. Making shearling coats is a little more difficult than making shearling jackets, just because it’s pretty complicated and time-consuming to match longer pieces. Many of the long luxury garments have fashion-oriented styling and design that requires longer or more uniquely shaped sheepskin pieces. Generally, the ordinary coats will have more rugged styling and the luxury coats look more fashionable and have fitted designs.
The quality of the wool
No matter you buy ordinary or luxury shearling coats, the material will always be soft. Although, the more expensive the coat, the denser and finer the wool. For example, the Merino wool used by A&A Vesa feels more like a plush, exotic fur. As you can feel on your own, there is a big difference in feel between a thick wool sweater and a fine Merino wool sweater. The difference in wools on a shearling coat is the same.
