Six Must-Have Handbag Trends for Fall 2017

One of the best  ways to breathe some new  life into your wardrobe is with   accessories. Whether you're headed back to school or simply want that fresh  start feeling, take a look at the fall season's hottest accessory trends. This  season's handbags in particular exude a luxurious, warm, and cosy feeling that  will have you ready to go apple picking or hit the holiday party circuit in no  time.

1. Checked Patterns

This upcoming  season is all about plaid, tartan, and checked patterns. Designers including  Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood, and Ralph Lauren all showcased checked designs  on their handbags this year. You can play it safe with a chic black and white  checkerboard pattern, or opt for Highland glamour in a woollen tartan print. An  added bonus to checked patterns is that they never really go out of style, so  think about choosing a higher end model that you can use for many seasons to  come.

2. Oversized Clutches

There's nothing  like a classic  clutch to take with you when you're  headed out on the town. From a ladylike dinner party to a wild night out  clubbing, clutches are chic and utilitarian. The classic clutch fits just the  basics, however. If you want to bring more with you than your favourite  lipstick and a credit card, you're now in luck with this season's range of  oversized clutch bags.

3. Bucket Bags

If you've been  carrying around a bucket bag throughout the summer, hold onto it because this  convenient trend is still hot for the fall/winter 2017  season! Naturally, you  can upgrade to choose one in a darker or more muted tone to match the colder  weather. Bucket bags are ideal for carrying around all of your belongings in  style, with plenty of room and a chic slouchy silhouette. They're available in  a range of forms and styles this season, incorporating other trends on this  list including checked patterns and fringe.

4. Western Fringe

Designers from  Michael Kors to Lanvin showcased a penchant for leather fringe on their catwalk  looks this year. Handbags accentuated with a layer of fringe can bring instant  style and glamour to an otherwise neutral outfit. Fringe is often associated  with Western looks, but it also is reminiscent of a boho 60's vibe which is  very on trend this season. Like checked patterns, this is also a trend that never  really goes out of style. For example, you'll note fringed tassels on a  wide selection of Gucci bags at,  as well as on other popular brands.

5. Backpacks

Are you looking  for a more stylish and daring alternative to the oversized tote bag or  briefcase? With the Nineties revival in full swing, it was only a matter of  time until the backpack made a comeback. This year's backpacks range from sleek  black leather to kitschy faux fur, available in a range of sizes. They're  adorned with various details and come in a range of fabrics, which makes them  both practical and versatile.

6. Boxy Shapes

A final trend this year is the abundance  of boxy, geometric handbags. These come in padded quilted leather as well as metallic-accented  chests, making them a bold fashion statement with plenty of room in the  interior. Chanel, Versace, and Derek Lam all offer their own take on this new  trend.

You're sure to make a bold statement of  your own if you pick up any of these hot new handbag designs this season!
