What Are The Odds: Five Strange Places To Meet The Man Of Your Dreams

A lot get made of odds, your likelihood of winning the lottery vs. your odds of getting struck by lightning. Whether you’re in a casino and your friends argue whether there are better odds in poker or roulette. Then there’s the odds of meeting your dream man, well when it comes to love maybe you’re just not looking in the right places. And by right places, we mean the strangest places.

With so many movies, tv shows and Netflix subscriptions, hardly anybody reads anymore. So if you’re someone who does, then make sure you’re going to your local book shop as often as you possibly can. You’ll soon become aware of other regulars and if there’s a particular man who is there just as regularly, then the chances are that he’s a book lover too and you’ve got yourself a common interest. If you happen to run into him at a book signing too, then happy days, you must like the same author.

Yes it seems that everybody is using Tinder, Blendr, Grindr or any other variations out there and it can be very easy to dismiss the online dating world, but maybe you shouldn’t. Research has revealed that of the 54 million single people in the United States, over 40 million have tried or are currently using online dating. There is quite a deal of vetting to be done in your early days as there are a lot of trolls knocking around, but once you’ve learnt how to avoid them and can quickly learn how to spot and land a catch instead.

Roller coaster speed dating

This has been trialed by a number
of theme parks
all over the world including the UK’s Alton Towers. Even organisers arranged special ‘singles queues’ in order to pair up strangers at the ride entrance mere moments before they sit down on the roller coaster. There’ll be little time to break the ice as they’ll be travelling at speeds of up to 100kph with a force of 4.7G. The science behind it suggests that a combination of a high endorphin rush and the production of adrenaline brought on by the rides make for a heady mixture that is perfect for a first date. The flow of these chemicals almost guarantees to increase levels of attraction between singles.

Giant Red Couch Speed Dating

A Santa Monica company hosted a 2011 speed dating event on a 213-foot red leather couch. It was briefly certified as the world’s largest couch, but has now been surpassed and is only the world’s largest red couch. It may also be the largest couch to have hosted a speed dating event.

Pheromone parties

An unexpected phenomenon that has strangely caught on. Guest of the party sleep in a t-shirt for three nights to capture their odour and then bring it to the party in a zip-lock bag, the bags are then labelled pink for females, blue for males and each bag is assigned a number. Each guest only knows the number of their own shirt. All of the bags are placed on a table and guests smell the bags at their own leisure throughout the party. When a guest finds a smell attractive, they have their picture taken with the bag at a photographer station. The collated photos are then projected as a slide show on the wall at the party. If you see a picture of a guest holding your number, then you have the green light to go and speak to them.  After the party a tagged album is added to Facebook so you can still contact any matched you may have missed. Well, what are you waiting for? Go out there and get sniffing.
