When furnishing a guest bedroom, generally with an attached bathroom, aim for comfort, functionality and simplicity. Your guests should feel as if they are in their own home and should not become overwhelmed by their surroundings. Therefore, choose furnishings and linen that reflect this and which will immediately put your guests at ease.A Comfortable Bed
Start with the bed. It is the focal point of any bedroom. Your guests will love a bed with crisp, comfortable sheets. If they fail to have a good night’s sleep, then it is most likely due to cheap and coarse sheets. Before you furnish your guest bedroom, keep in mind your budget and how much you are willing to spend on linen. Devote at least half to buying bed linen.Towels
Once you’ve settled on the linen for your guest bedroom, do not forget the bathroom, which is equally important. Choosing a good towel is requisite, as your guests will probably use them when they visit the beach as well. Something to keep in mind before choosing a towel is the fabric weight. Since your guests will most probably visit in the summer, stack your bathroom with towels having a lower fabric weight, less than 500 GSM, and suited to warmer climes and trips to the pool. Thus, pick beach towels of a good quality. They will need to have several features, namely, absorbing water, drying quickly and being big enough to wrap around the body. They should also be thin enough to fit into a bag and not be too cumbersome at the beach. The best towels for the summer are made of cotton and terry cloth, so go for towels made of these materials. How to Determine Quality in Bed Linen
When buying bed sheets, aim for quality. Bed sheets with the best quality usually have a higher thread count and feel softer to the touch. Thread counts vary according to the clientele. For instance, sheets with the lowest thread count are used in hospitals, while those with the highest, from 800-1000, are used in luxury hotels. Aim for something between 200 and 600. 200 if you’re on a budget, but don’t worry, because these sheets are still crisp and summery and are used in certain hotels. 600 if you want quality and a smooth and lustrous feel.Decide On a Fabric
Bed linen comes in two different fabrics, percale and sateen. Percale is a closely woven, plain weave and usually has a higher thread count. It is also very durable and will withstand multiple washes and last longer. Thus, it is very popularin hotels. Sateen is woven with more threads on the surface than in other fabrics and therefore has a shine to it, similar to satin. It is also softer than percale. You can decide which fabric you prefer. Once you have made your choice, make sure you keep your linen in good condition, so that it will last.
Finally, check for damages or tears in your linen and keep them in good condition by washing regularly.
