You probably already have a headshot that you use for your resume and other professional uses, and maybe it’s just a picture on LinkedIn or Facebook, but still this headshot photograph is what is representing you as an artist or a professional whatever-it-is-you-do, and that’s important.
So there could be a multitude of reasons why your current headshot isn’t working like you hoped it could, and this could include the facts that it just isn’t a top-rate quality picture and you may have used a shoddy photographer. Maybe your headshot doesn’t really look like you anymore and it is time to get
a more updated version, and this happens pretty regularly believe it or not,
and it’s important to make sure your headshot is the best it can be, and is frequently updated. Maybe you are submitting your headshot to things that your
headshot doesn’t really fit that well with too.
So we know that there are a bunch of reasons why you might need a new headshot, so once you’ve decided that you do in fact need a new headshot there are also a bunch of things that you need to remember to make sure that
you have a great photo shoot and that you look great.
The first thing that you need to keep in mind is knowing what you want, and this is something that goes much further than your headshot of course, but you are going to want to make sure that your headshot portrays who you are and more importantly who you want to be.
The next important aspect of a great headshot is to dress for the part, and this is of course very subjective for everyone but it applies in all ways for everyone. It’s fair to say that you shouldn’t wear too much of black or white clothes, and it’s a great idea to wear a hue of color that extenuates your skin tone and your eyes. Of course you want your eyes to look as good as they can in this headshot, so make sure that you do your eye makeup as best you can that fits the part as well.
This next step is of course a given, which is to make sure your photographer rocks! Get feedback and recommendations and talk to people before hiring your photographer just to make sure that he or she is reputable in the field, and you’ll be really happy with the results if you find the right guy for the job for you.
Also, from your perspective there is a lot of preparation that is required for a headshot shoot, and this includes making sure your hair is perfect, your face is all freshened up, your clothes are prepared and ready and that you feel really great of course. Sometimes music is a great thing to bring
to your shoot to help you loosen up and get the perfect image.
But just be loose and happy and confident during the shoot and listen to your photographer, and if you do all these steps you should be more
than ready to have the headshot you’ve always dreamed of!
