Vampire Facials: Everything you Need to Know

From the name you might be thinking Halloween has come around early, but this cosmetic treatment is certainly not a gruesome holiday outfit. If you are a person who becomes weak by looking at blood or can’t handle needles going in to your skin, this beauty trend is probably not for you. The vampire facial can remove wrinkles and brighten the skin and this has meant that it has gathered a wide number of users.

If you fancy seeing which celebs have taken the treatment, head over to social media and search the hashtag #vampirefacial where you will see a number of pictures of blood smeared faces, all in the name of better skin. Thought his treatment may be seen as controversial by some, the vampire facial, also known as PRP therapy could be become more popular than the chemical peel.

How it Works
The treatment definitely differs from what you might expect to see from most other surgeries. Firstly, the doctor or surgeon would take around 3 tablespoons of blood from your arm, usually via a syringe. The blood taken is then put in to a machine which holds the purpose of separating the platelets from your red and white blood cells which are rich in plasma. These plasma-rich platelets (PRP) are then injected in to your face using a special ‘dermapen’. The needle then goes 2.5mm under the surface of the skin, most people feel no pain from this.

Where did it Come from?
Vampire facials have been around for a very long time, but have only really come to the forefront of cosmetic surgery over the past few years. The purpose of PRP therapy over the past 30 years has been used primarily to help burn victims with any scarring they have. A number of sports stars including David Beckham, Rafael Nadal and Tiger Woods have even used vampire facials to recover from injuries. The reason it has become more popular for cosmetic surgeries is because it can help with a wide number of skin conditions and can also provide some ant-ageing benefits.

Safety Concerns
As long as the treatment is provided by a licensed doctor or surgeon, vampire facials are as safe as any other cosmetic treatment. If there are any issues that come up with the treatment there are a number of procedures you should follow, which would be the same as if you were going to make a
breast implant claim. The main danger that is unique to this type of treatment is with the removal of blood, where it is vital that it is done in a clean environment so you don’t suffer from any blood related diseases.

What if Something Goes Wrong?
This is a fairly new treatment and with this comes a number of people who aren’t fully qualified to do the surgery but will look to jump on the bandwagon and make some money off the popularity of the trend. So it is vital you do strong research in to the doctor who is doing your surgery to avoid any of these issues. If you do have an adverse reaction or get some type of infection, you may be able to make a claim for
cosmetic surgery negligence, of course no want this type of hassle so it is very important you research it all thoroughly.
