If you're reading this, it's safe to assume you're in search of a look to celebrate Valentine's Day, not mourn it. It's a day for all things love, and hearts and flowers and so much chocolate that you'll have to shoehorn your way into your pants the next day. And it will be worth it, because in a world awash in despair, a little love can go a long way.
Celebrate V Day with style. Here are some spectacular looks to try out:
1) Liquid Sex
Celebrating with someone special? Like, dinner-for-two, bought-new-underwear-for-the-evening, special? Then dress for the occasion. Now's the time to embrace your inner sex kitten and don a dress that honours every killer curve on your body.
The LBD isn't going to cut it tonight. Either is a typical frilly party dress. You need an equally understated and sexy dress that let's your body do the talking. (And what it's saying is probably best left for the ears of your paramour.)
2) Active Love
For those of you whose Valentine's plans are a bit more active (and I don't mean between the sheets), you may want to stay clear of outfits that require constant assessments for damage control. Whether you’re skating, or skiing, or taking a stroll through the city, your outfit should keep your bits firmly in place, and allow for easy, comfortable movement.
Opt for a pair of skinny jeans that do wonders for your rear, and an elegant (but not fussy) sweater. Wear a scoop neck tank top underneath in case things heat up when you get inside. For optimal comfort and style, complete this outfit with a bomber jacket (so your backside is in plain view!) and a pair of low heel ankle or knee boots.
Be sure to add a pop (or a full on hit) of red or pink in their somewhere, whether it be your footwear, or sweater.
3) Dance All Night
Whether you're out with your beau or your besties, dancing is always good fun on Valentine's Day. Try a pair of high waisted faux-leather pants on for size, and a super sexy shirt. If visions of Sandy D at the end of Grease are coming to mind, don't fight them. She looked hot - and man, did she dance.
4) Night In
Not everyone wants to go out for Valentine's Day, and your reasons for wanting to stay in could span a multitude of possibilities. Maybe you're sick, maybe you and your Valentine want to catch up on WestWorld, maybe you express your love best when you can loaf.
No problem, but that's also no excuse not to buy a great new outfit made to celebrate your love of being couch-locked, as well as your appreciation of your loved ones - be it your girls or your guy. Go for the mother of all sweatpants from Roots Canada. These babies were made for lasting love. Pair with a boyfriend sweater to show a sexy little sneak peak of shoulder.
5) Family Day
Whether you're spending Valentine's Day with your spouse and kids, or with your own mom and dad, there's still plenty to dress up about. In fact, now you can really have fun with your outfit.
Whereas wearing a sweater replete with hearts and kisses would look tacky on a date, it looks perfect when you're mincing about with (or as!) mom and dad. Pair the shirt with some comfy and stylish leggings, Chucks, throw on an infinity scarf, and you're good to go.
The best Valentine’s Day outfit is going to be the one that reflects who you are, and how you’re celebrating. Pick one the works for you, and enjoy a good ol’ fashion love fest. That’s what the day’s all about, after all.
