Great Performers and Great Singers - There Is a Difference

Everyone naturally assumes that just because you are a great
singer, you must be a great performer, but that is not always true. A great
singer is one that has the ability to express every feeling known to man using
her voice; someone who can hit all the pitches and tones, and really make you
feel the song. An example of such a singer that everyone can agree, was Whitney
Houston. The woman had a voice so powerful; she could reach anyone with just a
simple hymn. Great performers are those who, while they don't have a perfect
voice, can put on a good enough stage show that you don't notice the flaws in
their voices. In this scenario, Britney Spears comes to mind.

Throughout history, there has been a long line of great
singers, but how can you set them apart from great performers? Simple. You
often notice that sometimes a singer does not sound as good live as they do on
the CD. That same artist can be seen in concert with a dazzling light show and
wicked dance moves on stage, all set to distract from their less than perfect,
unmixed voice. Unfortunately, Katy Perry is a prime example. On a CD or MP3,
the girl sounds amazing. Her voice and her songs are spectacular-after they
have added mix and reverb. If you watch her live, it is a completely different
story. She has a flashy stage presence and is a great performer; so most people
who go just to see her will not notice the difference. Anyone going for the
music is going to see it right away.

Christina Aguilera is a great singer. Her voice has reached
levels that only a few have been able to hit throughout music history. While
she makes great efforts to have an active stage performance, she'll never be
the best dancer or performer because you simply can't move around like that
while pushing your voice that hard. However, lip syncing your own music allows
you to do that, and so many great singers do that in concert. You will notice
the ones who are great singers, as opposed to great performers. Taylor Swift is
a great example. She is a great singer and amazing, especially for a girl who
stands in place to sing all her songs.

Being a great performer as opposed to a great singer is not
necessarily a bad thing. The people like a show, so why not give it to them?
The artist becomes lucky because, being as successful as they are, the fans go
there in pure hopes of being close to them without listening to their voices.
That being said, not all great performers have bad voices either. The problem
is now that the music industry has seen how much the people love the
spectacular shows, they are more focused on who can provide the best on stage
presence as opposed to who can sing the best. Occasionally, they find someone
who has both those qualities and makes them a star. You can get koss
