5 Tips for Adding a Spark to Your Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is supposed to be a fun holiday that gives you an opportunity to celebrate love and romance with the special someone in your life. That being said, there are only so many different local restaurants to choose between and only so many different types of flowers and chocolates to buy. After a few years of the same gifts and the same activities over and over again, the whole ordeal can start to feel a little boring and routine.

If you’re unimpressed with your standard Valentine’s Day celebrations and wish they were more exciting, you’re not alone. If you’re looking for new, creative ways to celebrate the holiday of love and romance with your partner, use these ideas as a guide to bring exciting romance and a sexy spark back into your Valentine’s Day festivities.

1. Revisit a Memory

If you and your partner have been together for a long time and the spark between you has started to die down, a great way to rekindle lost romance and excitement on Valentine’s Day is to revisit a memory the two of you have shared together.

Try recreating the night of your first date or a particularly memorable anniversary. Go to the same restaurant or do the same activity that made that night so special, and bask in the happy memories of the past while also enjoying each other’s company in the present.

2. Switch it up in the Bedroom

One of the best ways to add a spark to your Valentine’s Day is by adding excitement to your night in the bedroom.

Go shopping for Valentine’s Day lingerie and surprise your partner with it on V-Day night. Make sure the lingerie you choose stands out from the pieces that are already in your lingerie collection. New, sexy lingerie is one of the simplest and most effective ways to rekindle a lost flame in the bedroom.

3. Skip the Material Gifts

This Valentine’s Day, make an agreement with your partner beforehand that neither of you will buy the other any material gifts. That means no chocolates, no roses, no Valentine’s Day lingerie—although you can still buy that for yourself—and no heart-shaped balloons. While these gifts might be sweet and romantic, they are also expected to the point of being boring. Plus, they are very temporary. Roses die, balloons deflate, and a box of chocolates can only last so long. By the week after Valentine’s Day, you’ll have thrown all of your gifts away and won’t think about them until you exchange the exact same V-Day staple gifts a year later.

Instead of buying each other material gifts, spend the money you would have splurged on items and invest it in an experience that the two of you can share together. Go horseback riding, or splurge on a pricy dinner that wouldn’t normally fit in your budget. The memories you’ll make doing something fun and exciting together will be much sweeter and will last longer than any box of chocolates ever could.
