most, freshman year can be the scariest time in one's school life. I remember
having the anxiety and curiosity of attending high
school since the seventh grade.
Majority of high school freshman are from the ages of thirteen to fifteen. It
can be quite uncomfortable to go from being the oldest on campus to the
youngest. With this major change comes a lot of fears, such as upperclassmen,
classes, and friends.
idea of freshmen getting "canned" and picked on by older students has
been planted in one's heads since elementary school. Just thinking about the
cruel practical jokes and name calling can be frightening. It is true that some
seniors think of freshmen as immature and less intelligent. Being harassed
around school for being a freshman hardly ever happens in schools today; well,
at least, not at where I went to school. In spite of the fear, upperclassmen
can actually be helpful and encouraging.
the fear of classes comes many other related fears. Such being, "Will they
be hard?" Or, "How about if the teacher is mean or a bad
teacher?" " Will I be able to find my classes the first day?" On
my first day of high school, instead of going into Bible I went into a
different class where the upperclassmen looked at me funny. Despite some
embarrassing moments, soon you find all your classes and get use to them.
big fear among freshman is their friendships and peers. They fear their friends
will move away, go to a different high school, or not have any classes with
them. All these can make it difficult to see and remain close with your buddies. The fear is even tripled when you are the new kid. Not
only do you have to leave all your old friends behind but now you have to make
new ones. Just remember that during your freshmen year, that is when the most
new kids come in.
upperclassmen, and friends are only a few of freshman fears. Although with all
these fears one will shortly learn that not all upperclassmen are mean. Also
that high school is a great opportunity to meet new friends and become closer
to old friends. Plus you will get use to your classes and teachers and might
actually enjoy them. With all this in mind, high school can be a great place.
Pretty soon you go from a freshman to a senior and look back a few years, thinking
that you had nothing to fear at all.
