5 Ways to Get Rid of Undereye Circles

Undereye circles can be embarrassing and difficult to hide. If you're tired of slathering on concealer every morning, you can take steps to brighten and refresh your eyes. Here are five effective ways to get rid of undereye circles.

1. Get Some Shut-Eye

Most people associate dark undereye circles with lack of sleep, and there's a good reason for that. Lack of sleep can cause the blood vessels under the eyes to dilate. Dilation causes the dark tint, and the thin skin under your eyes makes the color more noticeable.

Before you run out and buy an expensive eye cream, ask yourself: How many hours of sleep do I really get? If the answer is less than seven, it may be time to establish a new sleep routine. Ideally, you want to get eight hours of sleep.

A restful night of sleep may be all that you need to banish those undereye circles for good.

2. Drink More Water

The human body depends on water to survive. In fact, our bodies are about 60% water. If you're not drinking enough water, it may be taking a toll on your skin.

Staying hydrated is one of the most talked-about beauty tricks for glowing skin. That's because dehydration can make your skin look dull and make undereye bags even more noticeable.

Lack of water can cause poor circulation under the eyes, making your undereye bags look worse. Dehydration also causes the body to retain as much water as possible, which can cause puffiness.

Alcohol, sugary drinks and caffeine can all cause dehydration, so opt for water instead.

3. Use a Collagen Cream or Eye Serum

Sometimes, genetics is the cause of undereye circles. No matter how much sleep you get, how much water you drink and how healthy you eat, you will still have bags under your eyes.

Collagen creams and eye serum for dark circles can help if genetics is the cause of your undereye woes. Experts recommend using products that contain retinol because it helps boost collagen production.

4. Change Your Sleeping Position

If poor blood circulation is causing your undereye bags, changing your sleeping position can help. Try sleeping on two pillows instead of one, and sleep on your back instead of your stomach or side.

When you wake up in the morning, apply a cold compress to your eyes for about five minutes to constrict the blood vessels.

5. Boost Your Vitamin C Intake

Vitamin C can do more than just help prevent colds. It can also help prevent undereye circles by encouraging collagen production. Vitamin C can also brighten your skin tone.

You can take a vitamin C supplement, or you can eat more foods that are rich in this essential nutrient. Foods that are high in vitamin C include:

- Kale

- Strawberries

- Oranges

- Lemons

- Melons

- Bell peppers

- Broccoli

- Cauliflower

- Raspberries

- Peas

- Pineapples

- Guava

- Blackberries

- Blueberries

- Clementines

- Tomatoes

- Papayas

Along with skin benefits, boosting your vitamin C intake will also help boost your immune system.
