In the past, the health and relaxation benefits of spa therapy were the thing of
far-off, high-end resorts that were out of the reach of the average person.
More recently, day spas have blossomed in the U.S. economy, making the spa
experience more affordable and accessible to millions of Americans, but many
still only visit the spa on select, very special occasions.
"Spa occasions" might include upcoming weddings, anniversary getaways,
the graduation of your high school or college kid, or just looking your
best at Christmas and Easter parties. And while spas certainly do answer the
need for these special occasion usage, they also have benefits that make them
worthwhile any day of the year.
Below, we look at six benefits of regular spa attendance, one or more of which
will apply to almost everyone:
Some may say their schedule is too busy to allow for frequent spa visits, but the
very busyness of your schedule could be a good reason to find a way to squeeze
spa visits into it. Even a quick, half-hour spa
visit can greatly reduce your stress levels and send you back out into the
world feeling better and ready to tackle your many daily tasks.
2.Health and Wellness
Hot tubs, saunas, steam showers, and other popular spa therapies have been shown to
have a positive effect on your overall health and wellness and to assist,
specifically, in lowering blood pressure, helping heart health, combating aches
and pains caused by sports injuries, fighting arthritis and fibromyalgia, and
lowering blood sugar levels for diabetics. And spa baths have also been shown
to alleviate headaches by dilating your blood vessels, which in turn decreases
the excess pressure affecting your head.
3. A Better Night's Sleep
Sleeping disorders are all too common in our modern economy and modern society.
Lifestyle changes, getting more of the sun's rays and more fresh air, and
making adjustments to your diet can all help, but spa treatment has also been
proven to help restore normal sleeping patterns. By relaxing and rejuvenating
for an hour or a half-hour during the day, you boost your energy and activity
level, which makes you more tired and ready to sleep
when bedtime comes.
4. Making Weight Loss Easier
A recent study has shown that spa-style hydrotherapy done six days a week for 30
minutes a day can lead to a loss of four pounds per week in addition to any
weight loss that comes from exercising or making diet changes. With America's
"obesity crisis" seemingly out of control, a spa treatment can
be a part of the solution. And that regular retreat into the healthy
environment of a local day spa can give you the motivation to eat and live
healthy once you walk back out into a society that makes healthy living
5. More Relaxed Muscles
Most people today are far too "tense" and don't even realize it. In many
cases, there will be particular muscles that get far tenser than the others. A
therapeutic massage by
a skilled spa professional can help your muscles relax. A good masseuse
will know how to identify your most tense muscles and focus especially on
loosening them up. And as an added bonus, many massage artists will give you
free nutrition and lifestyle tips that really work.
6. Detox Your System
To feel better, look younger, and live longer, one key is to "detox"
your body. Over the months and years, we accumulate various harmful toxins in
our systems that are detrimental to our overall health. These toxins can weaken
our immune defenses and make us easier targets for a host of diseases and
medical conditions. Day spas offer therapies that work those toxins out of your
body and leave you healthier and looking more youthful.
We have looked at six key reasons to visit the local spa more often, instead of
reserving spa trips for special occasions only. No doubt there are many more
good reasons, and with the way the day spa industry is growing, business men
and women have good cause to consider owning a day spa.
But the bottom line is this: if you want to protect your health and lower your
stress levels as much as possible, regular spa treatments can be a key element
in accomplishing those goals.
