For one it may be cheese that triggers a breakout and for another it may be chocolate that sparks acne! Diet Soda- While chocolate is often crowned the culprit behind acne, Dr. Ava Shamban a reputed American dermatologist states that chocolate doesn’t really cause an acne breakout. According to her, a high sugar or high fat diet can increase the production of sebum in the body which can lead to acne. Diet soda one of the most popular drinks the world over, is high in sugar and can cause more acne breakouts than they are held responsible for. This also means, no candy and no food that is high in sugar, especially if you wish to get rid of body acne, wrinkles and unhealthy skin at bay!
Diary- If you are fond of drinking a glass of milk every time you get hunger pangs, you have just caught the culprit! Cow’s milk in particular contains growth
hormone- testosterone that can cause acne. Milk is also responsible for the production of insulin in the body that can also cause acne! So, the next time you are tempted to lather your bread with cheese or drink a tall glass of milk before bed, remember too much diary can cause an acne breakout!
Gluten – The world is going gaga over following a gluten free diet for more reasons than one! Gluten is said to cause inflammation in the small intestines. This can also manifest in the form of acne on the skin. If you want to sport clear acne free skin, it is time to ditch flour, bread and pasta!
Salt- Now, this may come as a surprise to you! But, yes salt too can cause acne. It can disrupt
the hormonal balance in your body which can make acne worse. Often brushed away as an old wife’s tale, salt can indeed cause swelling in the tissues and give you a puffy look. Try and avoid consuming too much iodized salt if you are prone to acne. We also suggest that you check the sodium content in pre-packaged foods, before putting them into your shopping basket. You may also thoroughly rinse canned veggies, meat as well as beans to reduce sodium content before cooking them!
Processed foods- Any form of processed food is a BIG NO, if you suffer from acne breakouts. Processed food is hard to digest and can cause inflammation, acne and other allergic reactions. Many of them are also replete with additive, chemicals and flavors, fat and refined sugars that can lead to diabetes and other serious health ailments.
