Rooting is similar to the super user or root user concept in Linux. It enables the user to have administrative power to the operating system. The user can perform some hardware level tasks such as, rebooting, controlling status lights, recalibrating touch sensitive inputs and many more. The root user is also capable to upgrade the kernel or even upgrade the entire current OS version to higher versions.
