How to Keep On Top of Everything...And Be Happy

Speaking for myself really, I feel so much more relaxed when everything is reasonably tidy and clean. Its one less thing to look at and go 'oh great, thats another thing to do'

And it doesn't neccessarily have to be the hard, boring work that you'd imagine it would be. If you are truly organised and never let your home get to the Really Bad kind of state then its easy to keep on top of it.

So some things you could do to get rid of that extra bullet point on your list.

You can now cross out the    -Tidy and clean house, about 5 million hours

Because, lets face it, not many of us really have the time to give our homes mini spring cleans every other day, but we do have time to tidy as we go along.

For example..... :

  • When you are cooking, you should tidy up as you go along. For instance if you are using loads of herbs and you had to get them all out of the cupboard, put them back as you go... sounds silly but it really helps and saves time

  • Before and after you eat give the table and surrounding surfaces a quick clean - nothing big, just to get rid of some crumbs or some spilt juice, or whatever's there

  • When you've finished eating, don't just put your plate on the side and think 'Oh I'll do it later', you should wash it up - either by hand or stick it in the dishwasher

  • In the morning, as soon as you get up, give your room a little tidy to wake yourself up. This is just as simple as making your bed and picking up any clothes that are on the floor and putting them in their place. This helps keep your room tidy

  • Arrange cushions on the sofa - this takes under a minute but makes everything look tidy and organised

  • Have an hour to clean your home on a Sunday. It gets it done. Just bring out the vacum-cleaner and the duster and get to work for an hour. Listen to music or the radio, it makes it easier

  • Have a calendar in your kitchen where you and other member of the household can write down what they're doing when and where. This prevents double booking and mistakes.

  • Share out the chores with others in your home. Maybe they cook one night and you cook the next - just so its fair and you have some time to do what they want.

  • Don't spend ages at your computer or TV or phone during the day or night. Maybe spend just under 2 hours on electrical things like that (excluding work obviously)

  • Before you go to bed, potter round and tidy up bits and bobs, like the morning routine

  • Read before you go to bed,  it helps to soothe the mind. No tv or anything 30 mins before you go to sleep

  • If your not a fan of reading then maybe make a list of all the stuff you have to do - however little or big, it helps to de-stress yourself, giving you a better nights sleep

  • Give yourself a D.O.R. You may ask what is this? Well its something me and my friends do, its a Day Of Rest

  • Sounds silly right? Well pick a day at the weekend where you don't do much anyway and name it your D.O.R

  • On that day you get everything done that you've written on your to-do list that you wrote before you went to sleep

  • As well as that, maybe have a bath, a facemask, watch a nice film, just simply relax and catch up on work or bits&bobs that you either need or 'need' to do - its kind of a you day.

  • Take 10 deep breaths when you feel stressed

  • Have enough sleep

  • Eat when you are hungry- but make sure that its healthy - I tend to allow myself one crappy thing a day, other wise you won't do it!

  • EXERCISE. Whether its dance, running, tennis whatever, it wakes you up and gives you enery.

  • Listen to music - music is made to relate to you and can make you feel relieved

  • Catch up with friends (not on your DOR though)

  • Smile to yourself every morning and tell yourself that you are beautiful inside and out and that you are a wonderful person - makes you feel so much happier honestly
