Technological Impact On The Health Industry

As technology continues to thrive, both humans and other animal species tend to grow healthier than before each and every day. This is because of the crucial role technology plays in our society today. Technology applied in health can be seen by examining the range of applications of information technology: in administrative applications of information technology, we have reliable and computerized patient records, secure accounting and billing procedures, quality automated referral and training, electronic mail and other automated communication.

Furthermore, managerial decision support systems, mechanical linkages between databases, automated hospital information systems and electronic networking with suppliers and regulators are all the results of the advancing technology.

Clinical applications of information technology are seen in Telehealth and telemedicine, smart cards, monitoring medical imaging and signal processing. Also in neural networks and pattern recognition, communication, and even guiding us through the lab tests operations to tracking our fitness capabilities. By using our mobile devices to get information about how we can improve our diet and nutrition procedures.

The Internet:

With internet coming in, communication was made much easier as two or more doctors could share information anytime anywhere for the purpose of gaining knowledge on how to proceed with a particular operation or analysis. The Internet has also been a frequent source of obtaining medical information through several types of research. A lot of people do go online to find solutions to their problems, and they not only search for the symptoms but also want to identify what treatments are suitable for them. Also, doctors can keep in touch with their patient online as well as reach a broad population through the use of the social media tools. 

Physicians and nurses are always keen and on their toes to check out for the new technological inventions in the field of health. New medical healthcare facilities are always on the go, and new ones keep coming up every while, no one ever wants to miss on this.

Improved Healthcare Facilities:

We never thought technology could save billions of lives and increase recovery chances until the introduction of new machines, treatment methods, and medicine and medical equipment that have led to improved efficiency in workers operation and improved patient care as well. Today, expectant mothers can now confirm the current status of the baby through baby-monitoring machines that scan through and provides an overview of how the baby is. Thanks to the advancement of technology. 

ACLS Algorithm:

Technological advancement has enabled realization of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) algorithm, which refers to a set of procedures followed when undertaking treatment majorly dealing with respiratory health problems, potentially fatal arrhythmias and cardiac arrest.

We have various types of ACLS algorithm, e.g.:-

1.    Cardiac Arrest Algorithm.

2.    PEA/Asystole Algorithm; It uses vasopressor medication technique that constitutes vasoconstriction and a sudden increase of blood pressure.

3.    VF/Pulses VT Algorithm

4.    Bradycardia Algorithm; uses a decision point of determining adequate perfusion.

5.    Tachycardia algorithm; this provides solutions if a patient has a rhythm with a heart rate greater than 100 bpm

6.    Respiratory algorithm

7.    Opioid Emergency Algorithm

8.    Suspected stroke algorithm
