Pregnancy: Rocking the Red Carpet

Leverage your pregnancy glow to look your best while attending a black tie event.

Pregnancy is very often a time of great excitement for the expectant parents. It's a time of hope, but also a time of change which can be very unsettling. Let's face it! In a mere 9 months time, your precious newborn is going to disrupt, albeit a positive disruption, your family’s lives.

It goes without saying that most expectant mothers will have lots of questions such as: Will your newborn be born without any issues? What about the birth itself? How will you look after a newborn? How long can you keep working while pregnant? What happens if you need to attend a black tie event? What can you wear? Is it possible to look good in any outfit as your “baby bump” is going to grow at a rapid rate?

Ways to look good at a red carpet affair

According to Abi Weeks, "Red carpet events are your opportunity to shine. Sure, you might not be rubbing shoulders with celebrities, but it does not mean you can get away with showing up in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt." Consequently, there is no doubt that, while pregnant women, understand that their weight gain is for a good cause,  dressing up to attend a formal occasion can be fairly stressful. Here are a few ways to help you look good when you go out:

Treat yourself to a pregnancy-safe makeover

It's a good idea to have your hair and make-up professionally done by a hair stylist and beautician; thereby, removing a lot of the stress from the preparation for your black-tie event.

Choose a flattering outfit

It’s important to accept that your body shape has changed in the short-term; therefore, choose an evening gown that shows off your body in an elegant and tasteful way. Make sure you are comfortable with what you are going to wear. You won't look your best if your gown does not fit you properly. It might be worth considering consulting a dressmaker to either make up an evening dress that fits your body without pressing on your baby bump.

Get enough sleep

This point might not be directly related to what you are going to wear to the event; however, you won’t look and feel your best if you are tired and uncomfortable from the lack of sleep. Investing in a special pillow for pregnancy from allaboutmom will help you sleep for longer as it increases your comfort levels while you sleep.

Wear comfortable shoes

Choosing the right shoes to match your outfit is one thing; however, it's also critical to spend the evening in comfortable shoes. As your baby grows, your levels of comfort will decrease; thus, forcing yourself to walk in high heels will just add to your discomfort; thus, you will need to find shoes that look good with your dress and that are comfortable to walk in.

Final words

I believe that this article has proven that, even if you are quite far along in your pregnancy, it is possible to rock an outfit at any red carpet event. Have fun and enjoy yourself!
