Can type 2 diabetes patients follow keto diet plan?

The number of people suffering from type 2 diabetes is seen to be increasing at a fast rate due to wrong lifestyle and other health conditions. Those trying to prevent or control type 2 diabetes can follow keto diet plan or ketogenic diet. This diet is said to be a low carbohydrate diet comprising of the following:

·         Total carbohydrates – 5%

·         Protein – 30%

·         Dietary fat – 65%

This diet is good enough to help control the blood sugar levels. Besides getting to eat the favorite food, the person is also in a position to control his/her blood sugar level.

Is this the right diet for everyone?

This is an important aspect that needs to be understood prior to taking ketone strips. It will be useful to go through the below given reasons and find out the truth about this diet plan.

· Lacking dietary fiber: One major issue with this diet is that the person might lack seriously in dietary fiber. All vegetables (apart from low carb varieties) are to be almost avoided from being consumed. Moreover, fruits are not permitted. Even high fiber grains should not be taken, which means, only primary fats and proteins are left, two foods that does not contain any fiber.

· Suffer brain fog: Following the ketogenic diet plan might lead to suffering from brain fog. This is probably because, the brain runs off glucose. There are few who after a couple of weeks of following the diet may feel better, especially with their brains starting to use ketone bodies as source of fuel. However, others might not simply feel better. It means, this diet might not work for some due to this reason.

· Low in energy: It is another issue faced with keto diet. The person is likely to feel low in energy when trying to perform his exercise regimen. The body is able to use glucose as fuel source only for intense exercise. Again, if carbohydrates are not being consumed, then there is no glucose available. Hence, this diet is not meant for everyone eager to lead active lifestyle and have regular workout sessions.

· Decline in antioxidant status: The final issue faced with keto diet is because of lack of vegetable and fruit content in the food consumed. Hence, there is bound to be sharp decline in antioxidant status. The latter is considered to be important to do away with free radical change and therefore, is not to be taken lightly. If not taken properly, then the person is sure to fall sick in the near future.

If the plan is to take keto strips, then the above aspects are to be kept in mind. It will be useful to consult a good and qualified health care professional, who will take into consideration the health aspect of the person and accordingly suggest if this diet is appropriate or not to be followed.

There are few risks that tend to come with this diet. Fat and sugar is converted into energy. Initially, it was used to treat epilepsy. However, the diet’s effects are found to help those suffering from Type 2 diabetes by reducing their blood sugar. Find more details at and lead a healthy, happy and satisfied obesity free life!
