Hey all:-)
The automatic response when people find out that I am studying human nutrition is either 'how do I lose weight" or "you must have the perfect diet".
Now the first one I could help you with. The second make me laugh everytime. Yes I have enough theoretical knowledge to give anyone the ideal diet but that is a bit unrealistic seeing that we all crave junk food. If we didn't Fast food chains wouldn't be making millions everyday.
SO yes I am addicted to coffee, I eat chocolate almost daily, and i eat desserts like a mad women.
Will I end up being another obese statistic? I really hope not. But there are ways to indulge and care for your body at the same time.
Green tea is also high in caffiene and it so much better than coffee (with regard to health benefits).Now I would never be able to stop my morning coffee, but I have replaced my other coffees with green tea. Also try adding less sugar to your coffee or tea. Sugars are empty kJs and nothing more!!!
I heard this trick from an aunt and I swear by it: Add lemons to your water.Lemons are great for cleansing your system,much like green tea, and it does wonders for your skin.
FRUIT AND VEGGIES!!! These are Gods miracle workers and the food based dietary guildlines suggest 5 portions a day!! I prefer them raw, this way you get ALL the nutritional goodness! Also Vary the colours. Most fruit and veg that are the same colours have pretty much the same vitamin,mineral and antioxidant content so by varying the colours you vary the vitamins and minerals as well.ALso a note Avocado is actually considered a fat.Now it is a good fat and it is good for you but a quarter a day is enough. Potato and sweet poato are starches and therfore do not form part of the veg servings.Last point Grapes and watermelon have a higher sugar content when compared to other fruits so go easy on them.
