What is Beauty?

Soooooo.... long time no see... sorry about that... you know how life can get.  But I'm gonna try a little harder to blog some more! Here goes:

BEAUTY.  What is it?

No... really.  Think about it.  Off the top of your head, could you define what beauty is?

I had to go to for this one.  It says:

1. the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).

So that's the technical definition - I don't know about you, but that's not really that helpful to me.

What is beauty?

Is it a 5'10", a 20 inch waist, and a clear complexion?

But seriously?  Who can decide what beauty is? Its clear that we all have a picture of beauty that we aspire to... but who decided what is beautiful anyway?

Think about it... we all look at someone and say, "Oh, she's pretty!" Why?  What makes a person pretty/cute/beautiful?

I'll tell you this: What makes a person beautiful is something you can't see.

True, we all like to look at things pleasing to the eye - but who wants to hang out with a gorgeous girl who's rotten on the inside?

This is probably the millionth time you've heard something like this... I know that.  Try to bear with me ;)

The picture of beauty that the modern world has is FAKE.  Most girls look in magazines and see the models and think "I wanna look like that!"  Have you ever seen what celebrities look like without makeup?  They look like normal people.  So, basically, when you aspire to look like women in magazines, it's impossible.

I myself have had to face the facts.

FACT #1) You can't trust your eyes.  Any people that you see in magazines, movies, the internet, or even on live TV - they might as well be wearing masks!  If you ever wanted to look like a celebrity - guess what?  You already do!  Don't look at them and think that you're ugly - you're comparing yourself to perfection, an unachievable goal!  You can't let your heart be affected by what your eyes see.

FACT #2) Not everybody can look like a supermodel.  As I said above, that' simply wouldn't be natural. However, you might argue that it is true that there are levels of natural beauty among humans.  And, it is true, not everyone is born as "beautiful" humanly possible.  A lot of people feel insecure about this - even to see real people who are more beautiful than themselves.

FACT #3) Fact #2 is not a problem.  It does not matter if you feel like you can never meet up to standards of outer beauty.  God gives each and every one of us the chance to be as beautiful as heavenly possible.  This doesn't mean that you can look like an angel in a flash.  No - this is inner beauty that I speak of.  Anyone and everyone can be beautiful on the inside.  Now you might ask, what does this mean?  Well, inner beauty is defined by how you think, speak, and act.  It's the person you are inside rather than the mask on the outside.  'Cause that's really what it is, isn't it?  A mask.  Outer beauty will not last.  But inner beauty - it's eternal.

While it is not wrong to want to be beautiful on the outside, it is more important to be concerned about yourself as a person.  So while you cultivate your outer beauty, also consider what's on the inside.
