Are you worried and annoyed about skin tags? As people grow with their age, skin tags will appear in many people. Yes, they are more common in those people, who are overweight or suffering from obesity, pre-diabetic and diabetic. Skin tags are mostly harmless but can be disturbing. Skin tags can appear on the women who are pregnant and people who take steroids for their other diseases. Skin tag removal treatment can be easily done by an experienced and good dermatologist.

Don’t you know, What are skin tags?

Skin tags are a kind of small skin growths which look like soft balloons of hanging skin on various parts of the body especially, neck, underarms, armpits, thighs and area under the breasts. They may also occur on the face, usually on the eyelids. In the language of dermatologists, they are also known as “cutaneous tags” or “acrochordon”. They are painless, non cancerous growths on the skin.

The surface of these skin tags may be smooth or irregular in appearance and is rarely raised from the surface of the skin on a fleshy stalk called a peduncle. Usually, they occur almost anywhere on the body especially where the skin is rubbing up against the skin, so they are often found in skin creases and folds. Most commonly they appear on women than in men whose age is around 50 to 60 years.

Sometimes, skin tags are found in youngsters too, who have extra fats and are overweight. They are mostly irregular-looking, maybe little darker than your normal skin and may be the same color as your skin. Most of the people often get confused between the skin tags and warts.

Causes of skin tags

Skin tags are more common among people who have diabetes and people who are overweight as well. Generally, skin tags occur more after mid-life and both, men and women. But, according to an experienced dermatologist, they occur more in women.

One of the most common causes of skin tags is obesity. Because obese people have more skin folds and creases than a normal people. Sometimes, they may appear in pregnant women too, this may be due to the hormonal changes and constant weight-gain during their pregnancy.

Skin tags also develop in diabetic people. This may occur on their body, because they may constantly use insulin to control their sugar level. Regular use of steroids may also occur skin tags. Skin tags may appear in people through the harmful micro-organisms, the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which is commonly called wart virus. Most important thing is that they are not contagious. There may be a genetic connection. Sometimes, people who have skin tags on their neck, irritation may occur if skin tags are rubbed with clothing and jewelry.

Symptoms of skin tags

At the first time, skin tag may appear as a very small soft skin-colored growth that hangs from the surface of the skin on a thin piece of tissue. As time passes, they grow into a flesh-colored piece of skin attached to the skin surface by a tissue. It does not cause physical discomfort and are painless. Also, they are not associated with any kind of skin problems or conditions.

A skin tag is not painful, but when you twist it, a blood clot can develop within it and it may become painful. Sometimes, skin tag becomes irritated if it is rubbed a lot with clothing and jewelry.

Treatment of Skin Tags

A dermatologist can easily diagnose a skin tag by looking at it. As they are usually painless, a dermatologist can easily remove the skin tag with sharp scissors, blade, by freezing and burning them off at the stalk.

Doctors can remove skin tags by these simple methods:

Cryosurgery: It is a highly effective treatment for a broad range of benign skin problems. This surgery is also known as Cryotherapy. In this method, the skin tags are frozen using liquid nitrogen. A dermatologist may apply this liquid to the surface of the skin until they are snow white.

Excision or Cutting Off: This is one of the fast and instant method to remove skin tags. In this method, a surgeon uses sharp scissor, blade, and clipper to cut them off. This involves bleeding and little pain. They may also apply a kind of chemical to stop the bleeding subsequently. They may also prescribe some antibiotics.

Bonus Tip: You should avoid using cosmetics which are made by harsh chemicals and causes skin tags. Must use soaps and deodorants which are made from natural things or that are organic.
