Nuvigil: Is it Worth Taking?

Coping up with others in today’s competitive age is not an
easy thing. The idea of an active life with a powerhouse of energy might sound
like a distant dream. But probably it is not! Have you ever given a thought to

Yes! As research and developments are being made in the
field of medical science, the use of pharmaceutical solutions for improving
brain health is not a new idea. And Nuvigil proves just that! It is a marvelous
new development in the world of smart drugs, which has been also clinically
approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) back in 2007. Here’s what
you should know before you opt to get Nuvigil
for your use.

How and When was Nuvigil introduced?

On March 31, 2005, Cephalon Inc. files new drug application
for Nuvigil which was considered to be an upgraded version of Provigil. A
series of drug tests and experiments were conducted that differentiated it from
its predecessor.

It was found that the effectiveness of Nuvigil was higher as
it provided similar benefits at a much lower dose of 150 mg. Also, this smart
came with a purified chemical formula that had fewer side effects.
Also, the drug lasted for an effective period of time in the bloodstream
without causing any drug accumulation as it got eliminated through renal

Finally, on May 1, 2006, Cephalon received the approval
letter and subsequently granted permission for patent acquisition on November
7, 2006. It was subsequently approved by the FDA on June 18, 2007.

What is Nuvigil

Nuvigil is the brand name for Armodainil, a generic form of
smart drug. It is an upgrade in the world of smart drugs as it comes with a
cleaner chemical formula. This prescription medication helps drive away excess
sleepiness and fatigue by safely altering the actions of certain
neurotransmitters in the brain. This is why doctors generally prescribe it in
the treatment of sleep disorders like narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea and
shift work related sleep disorders.

Apart from that, it has certain cognitive enhancing powers.
These are considered to be off-label uses of the smart pill. It helps in
increasing our memory power and reasoning capabilities. One can also experience
a difference in the focus and attention level as this medication clears away
the “brain-fog”.

By giving you a sense of mental clarity, it can help you
improve your performance at work. It is indeed a smart drug that comes with
amazing energy-boosting powers.

Is Nuvigil addictive?

Nuvigil is not too strong as Waklert. It is seen to have no
such potential for addiction. But an overdose on this smart pill might lead to
habit formation. This is because an overdose can lead to serotonin accumulation
which produce euphoric like effects.

Doctors generally do not prescribe this medication to
patients with a history of drug abuse. It is due to this risk of overdose that
makes Nuvigil a federally controlled substance. It comes under the purview of
Controlled Substances Act so as to keep a check on its production and
prescription. This also restricts smart drug from being misused.

How to take Nuvigil doses?

You should always follow the instructions laid down in the
doctor’s guidelines for taking this smart pill. Some general guidelines for
taking this medication are-

You can take the normally recommended dose of
150 mg once in the early morning for narcolepsy and sleep apnea. If you are
suffering from shift work related excessive sleepiness, make sure to take the
150 mg dose 1 hour prior to your shift work.

It is advisable to take Nuvigil at the same time
each day.

Do not skip doses. Make sure to take this
regularly for the prescribed period of time.

You can take this pill with or without food.

Also, do not overdose on this medication. It has
a long half-life of 15 hours and an overdose can lead to disturbance in the
regular sleeping pattern.
