Why is a Certain Liposuction Technique Chosen?

If you have opted for liposuction, you must understand that it is not a replacement for weight loss and not effective for dealing with cellulite either. Cellulite is when your skin is dimpled and uneven in appearance. Liposuction is meant to decrease the fat deposit which does not budge even with diet and exercise. The best results can be seen when you begin to practice proper nutrition and exercise on a regular basis.

Factors to be considered

Your liposuction results depend on several factors like the elasticity of your skin and body type. If you suffer from any medical condition like lung disease or diabetes or poor blood circulation, you will be more susceptible to complications from the procedure. Any serious medical condition and expectations from the surgery must be discussed well to ensure that liposuction is the correct procedure for you.

During the initial consultation for your liposuction, the surgeon will ask you questions to understand your medical history and expectations from the procedure. In addition to letting the surgeon know about any medical conditions, you must also advise him of any vitamins, medication or supplements you take. Your surgeon will also want to know about the effects of weight loss programs you may have undergone in the past and the reasons why you chose liposuction. During the physical examination, the surgeon will check the amount of fat that needs removal in order to achieve the desired results. After this evaluation, your surgeon will be able to decide on the kind of liposuction you will benefit most from.

Tumescent liposuction

During this technique, the incisions will be less than one quarter inch and these are placed where they are not easily visible. A tumescent fluid is injected in the area, and this contains a local anesthetic as well. This technique takes longer than the traditional liposuction.

The super wet technique is similar but uses less fluid. It will require IV sedation or general anesthesia. The procedure takes about 2 hours for completion.

Ultrasound assisted lipoplasty

This technique uses a special cannula that produces ultrasonic energy. When this passes near the fat deposit, the energy causes the walls of the fat cell to explode and the fat liquefies. This is then removed using the normal liposuction method.

You could also opt for other liposuction techniques like vaser liposuction or the power assisted lipoplasty.
