What can you Expect from your Blepharoplasty Consultation?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure which helps improve the appearance of your eyes. It can be performed on your lower or upper eyelids or even both. Even though most patients opt for blepharoplasty in order to enhance their appearance, it is also opted for correction of vision problems. The surgery will improve the area that surrounds your eyes and this rejuvenates your facial appearance.

Why is blepharoplasty performed?

The procedure treats sagging and loose skin that disturbs the natural contours of the upper eyelid and that could have led to skin folds which impair your vision. This may include any fat deposits in the area appear as puffy eyelids or under eye bags. Blepharoplasty is also performed on eyelids that are droopy and reveal the white area below the iris as well as fine wrinkles and extra skin on the lower eyelids.

Consultation for blepharoplasty

Here are some things that your surgeon will discuss during the blepharoplasty consultation:

* Your goals and expectations from the surgery.

* Your medical condition, any treatments you are undergoing at present, drug allergies you suffer from or any other issue related to your eyes.

* Prescription medication you are on and this includes tobacco, vitamins, drug abuse, alcohol use and herbal supplements.

* The surgeon will evaluate your health in general and want to know about any pre existing conditions as well as associated risks.

* Your surgeon will take photos and recommend the procedure which will suit you best.

* He will discuss surgery outcome as well as any potential risks.

* Your consultation is also the time when the choice of anesthesia will be discussed.

If you have any questions regarding the procedure itself or the recovery period, your consultation is the best time to ask. So that you do not forget to ask anything important, make a checklist before you go for your consultation.

Preoperative anxiety and stress are normal about any upcoming surgical procedure. Share your feelings with your surgeon so that he can put you at ease about the procedure and the expected results.
