Known as the cinema center of the world, Hollywood boasts of all major film studios making the big budget, legendary movies that are admired all over the world. While Hollywood produces many types of movies, its specialty is highly entertaining feature films based on science fiction and fantasy, requiring the heavy use of special effects and prosthetic makeup. Many makeup artists have found and built their creative careers in Hollywood, especially in the special effects genre of movie making. There is often a serious shortage of qualified makeup artists in Hollywood. Today, there are many makeup schools operating in and around Hollywood to cater to the growing demand for makeup artistry.
EI School of Professional Makeup provides students with the opportunity to become skilled in all aspects of professional makeup. EI offers three programs of study: Studio Makeup Artist, a four-month program dedicated to the art of beauty, including beauty and corrective techniques, high fashion and photographic makeup, the wedding business, air-brushing, hair styling and the psychology of makeup. Students who graduate from this program work in all areas of the beauty industry including, cosmetics sales, development and research, teaching, salons, spas, fashion photography, runway shows, the wedding business, and in private client consultation and application.
The Special Effects Makeup (SFX) program offers 500 hours of training, taught over five and a half months offering students every aspect of special effects makeup from design, sculpting, molding, seaming, etc. Graduates are qualified to work in effect labs throughout the film and television industries.
EI's premier program of study is a one-year program,Artistry of Makeup. This program includes courses in beauty and corrective makeup, theatrical and live performance makeup, high fashion and photographic makeup, beginning prosthetic, television, and film makeup. Graduates from this program work in all of the makeup industries, including beauty, high fashion/runway, photography, television, film, and live theatrical productions, including music concerts, operas, ballets, dance performances, staged performances, etc. Courses include training in styling, budgeting, script analysis, character development, EI was the very first school of professional makeup in the world, opening their doors in 1966. The school has been continuously accredited since 1972, is licensed by the State of California. The school offers the highest industry standards in its curriculum, tools and materials, and all instructors are professional makeup artists with impressive resumes.
EI also offers Master Classes in both one-on-one training and small class settings, offering continuing education for the professional. Master Classes include: air-brushing, face and body painting, hair styling and arranging (including period styles), and advanced prosthetic and mask making. Master Classes are offered for a few hours up to 70 hours.
EI has a full schedule of student services including career services, a library with internet search available, and housing referrals. EI is completely student-centered giving students the guidance and support they need during their training.
