How to Improve Your Posture While You Sleep

 

How many
times have you woken up feeling tired because of a bad sleeping posture?
Although you move unconsciously in your sleep and you feel like you cannot
control your positions, there comes a moment when you must take measures. You
understand that the moment has come when you wake up tired and your back hurts
more than usual.

Having a
good night’s sleep is not enough for your body to be able to rest. In order to
maintain your health and wellbeing, you must be able to improve your posture
while you sleep. But how do you do that?

In this
article, you will learn the best ways to improve the way you sleep. Put in
practice the tips below and you will contribute greatly to the decrease of your
stress levels and emotional tension.. More than that, any neck, upper or lower
back pain will start to alleviate.

Here is
what you need to do:

1.     
Determine your sleeping position

In order to change the way your body
sleeps, you must determine your predominant position during the night. As you
can’t possibly realize it while you are deeply asleep, you must ask for help.
Speak with your partner or family about your intentions and ask for their help.
They should observe your sleeping position and help you keep a short diary. If
you live alone, it is a good idea to have a night camera installed and record
yourself while sleeping for a few nights.

2.     
Determine
the factors that could cause discomfort during the night

After doing the above, you will
learn how you sleep. You can either be a stomach sleeper, a side sleeper or a
back sleeper. See what the position that makes you the most comfortable is and
start improving it. However, it is recommended to avoid sleeping on your stomach,
because you prevent your spine from reaching a neutral position. If you are a
side or back sleeper and you don’t seem to be comfortable with your pillow or
blanket, then it is time to make some changes.

Go for an ergonomic pillow and
little cushions that can help you improve your posture. If you are a
side-sleeper, you can improve your position by using a large pillow that is
especially designed for this purpose.

3.     
Change your
mattress for a better one

Foam and memory mattresses have a
heavenly design. They can help you sleep like never before, which is why they
are worth the investment. Choose one that is firm and provides your body the
support it needs. Also, it needs to be really comfortable.

4.     
Stretch or
walk before going to bed

If you work late hours sitting
down, then there is a high chance that your pelvis is pressed forward. This can
prevent you from achieving a correct posture during your sleep. Walk around the
house for a few minutes to loosen up or do some stretching exercises to prepare
your body for sleep.

 

Except for the above rules for a
better sleep, you should also try to wear a posture corrective brace
during the day if your back and neck still hurt. You should only wear it for a
few hours per day and observe the difference. Also, make sure that you are
relaxed before going to bed and that you have a regular sleep schedule.
