How You Could Be Killing Your Hair

hair

If
you are a self-respecting human being, the chances are that you will never want to hear the words thin
and hair
in the same sentence when
referring to your locks. However, shedding more than you usually do is an entirely normal occurrence. Left unchecked, you
might find yourself going bald prematurely. If you can identify the causes of
your thinning hair and rid them from your life, you’re more likely to keep a
full head of hair indefinitely. From shampoo to temperature, there are many factors
that impact how your hair grows.

Taking
All Those Scalding Showers

Hot
water has been shown to dehydrate hair in many studies. The result of letting
hot water on your hair regularly is dry hair that feels brittle to the touch.
When your hair feels like this, wiping it can cause some of the hairs to break
and fall out. You’re stripping your hair of the oils it needs to survive. The heat from your hot
shower can also open up the pores in your scalp as they try to replace all the
oil you just lost. This results in dying cells in your scalp that have succumbed to exhaustion.

Using
Hair Irons and Heated Tools

There
is nothing like the gorgeous fluffy locks you get from running your hair
through a curling iron or a heated tool of any sort. While the heat
makes your hair glow in the short term, it could be destroying it in the long
run. The high temperature can cause the proteins in your hair to implode and
destabilize, completely disrupting the balance of moisture in your hair and
making it more vulnerable to breaking.

Going
on Ridiculous Diets

Crash
dieting is all the rage today. People all over the world are starving
themselves in an effort to look more beautiful. The result is almost
never pleasant. Your body becomes unable to focus energy towards some of its
other activities because you are depriving your body of essential energy. All
the remaining energy is directed towards your heart and brain, as well as the other core organs. This is why one of the biggest
symptoms of anorexia is hair loss.

Brushing
Your Wet Hair

Did
you know that your hair is at its most fragile when you have just stepped out
of the shower? Saturation with water leads to your hair’s cuticle raising itself
slightly. Many of us have fallen into the habit of brushing our hair in the
shower to save time and get rid of knots. The result of this? Significantly increased hair loss and
thinner hair.

One
of the last ways in which you’re probably damaging your hair is by scrunching
it up into tight buns and ponytails. While you might do this for style or the
professional look, you’re also putting an incredible amount of tension on your
hairs, which leads to them being far weaker and even permanently damaging your
roots, preventing new hair from growing.
