Product Review - Mattify Cosmetics Long Lasting Eye Shadow Minerals

For some reason, I tend to lapse into a boring makeup routine throughout the winter:  Traditional smoky eyes using black or grey eye shadow & liner. But now, with summer on the way, I’m ready for bright & exciting colors!  These Mattify brand shadows are perfect for launching into spring & summer, and saying goodbye to blah winter hues.

Back in December, I purchased the Mattify Cosmetics Mineral Eye Shadows at a makeup trade show.  Since it was an expo, I was able to see first hand how these colors look when applied both wet and dry.  I was, to say the least, VERY impressed!  Once the demo started, I was in awe of how pigmented and fresh these loose powder shadows looked.  The colors are absolutely vibrant and instantly brighten up the complexion. The best part is, they only cost $5 each. So, of course I bought almost every single color they had, and walked away with a collection of 15 gorgeous new shadows.

These can be worn as a regular powder eye shadow, or applied with a wet brush as eye liner. Either way, they are tremendously long lasting.  If you’ve read any of my past blogs, you already know that oily skin is the bain of my existence. I first encountered Mattify Cosmetics over a year ago when I was in search of an oil absorbing face powder, and have been hooked ever since. Their Mattify Ultra Powder is the one and only powder that has ever come close to controlling my oily skin. I religiously apply it every morning to my entire face, both before and after my foundation. I discovered that it also works wonderfully as an eye shadow primer so my lids stay oil-free and my eye makeup stays put all day.  At the trade show, I learned that all of the Mattify Sparkling Eye Shadows also contain this oil absorbent powder – so you don’t need to use an additional primer.  This explains why the shadows are so long lasting. When I apply the shadow and/or liner at the beginning of my day, it stays color-true and crease proof until I remove it.

As the demonstration at the expo continued, I heard the rep explain that the eye shadows can also turn into Lip Gloss AND Nail Polish! Seriously?! I watched as the cosmetic rep dipped the wand of a clear lip gloss into the eye shadow labeled “Lucky Penny” and swiped it onto her hand.  The result was a shimmering copper lip gloss. She continued, displaying their “Cotton Candy” and “Iced Apricot” shades as glosses.  Although pink gloss normally looks awful with my medium tan skin, my daily go-to color for gloss is the Cotton Candy.  It imparts a delicate, barely-there pink tint, with just enough shimmer.

Next came the Nail Polish demo. The rep took a clear glittery nail polish and dipped the wand into Amethyst Moon Eye Shadow.  She swept it across her fingernail and the eye shadow turned into a super pretty purple nail polish. She topped it with another swipe of the clear glitter polish and it looked like the result of a $50 manicure. Never before had I seen one tiny product that can do so much!  I’ve used almost every shade I purchased as nail polish and they all look great. You can mix and match them with any color of polish to create your own hybrid colors. They’re very fun to experiment with!

Here is a list of my top picks for each use:

EYELINER:

Twilight (black + blue sparkles)

Day Dreamer (bright vibrant blue)

EYE SHADOW:

Woodland Fairy (dark brown + gold sparkles)

Disco Sunset (pale reflective brown)

Snow Bunny (opaque white)

Ocean Mist (sparkly blue-green)

LIP GLOSS:

Cotton Candy (pale transparent pink)

Iced Apricot (light peach)

NAIL POLISH:

Amethyst Moon (purple)

Irish Eyes (dark green)

Ocean Mist (sparkly blue-green)

Since my picture-taking skills leave much to be dismayed, I have not snapped any photos of the way these look. But, you can follow these links to see pictures on the company’s actual website to see how they look in their various forms (wet, dry, lip gloss, nail polish):  http://www.mattifycosmetics.com/Mattify--Sparkling-Eye-Shadow.html

I highly recommend these eye shadows to anybody looking for long lasting, crease-free wear.  I've tried hundreds of shadows, and so many have been a disappointment because the color fades within hours. These Mattify Eye Shadows are ridiculously inexpensive, come in gorgeous unique colors, and have a higher pigment than most of the high-end brands I’ve tried. They score an A+ in my makeup grade book!
