Steps to build a chicken coop
The first thing you should be clear about the size you want for your chicken coop and the place where you will locate it. For the size, you must consider how many chickens you are going to have.
To calculate what you need, it is estimated that for three chickens a henhouse of 148 x 111.5 x 125 cm is recommended, while for one in which there are 5-6 he must have measures of 227 x 94 x 151cm.
If possible, it would be ideal if the henhouse could be under a large tree, at least partially. This is especially important in the summer since they will be cool and will not be too hot. Partial shade since the sun goes well to facilitate egg laying.
Choose the design among the many that can be, in the network you have to choose or you can visit chicken shops and take ideas to make your own.
On the roof and walls, it is convenient to use wood, for example, pallets, which you can even get for free as they are often thrown away in supermarkets or warehouses.
Prepare the structure and separate the chicken coop in different sections so that your chickens can be clear what is in each area. You must clearly differentiate where you sleep, where you eat and where the nest is.
When you already have the structure made with wood and screws, build the roof. It is recommended that you have a certain inclination so that the rain evacuates well and also stays cleaner.
Place the mesh around the outside surface of the house in the part where the hens will be during the day.
Do not forget to build a door with four slats and put the latch.
Distribute the straw on the floor to make it a comfortable surface for the hens and do not forget to put any essential element for their care.
Once this is done, you can start putting the chickens in the chicken coop. It is not recommended to paint it since the paint has chemical components that can be harmful to the hens.
