Is this the Right Time for you to get a Tummy Tuck?

If you are tired of the excessive fat and skin on your tummy after pregnancy and weight loss or due to aging, you may have already considered getting a tummy tuck. As time passes, it gets more and more difficult to lose the bulge in the abdominal area since the underlying muscles also get stretched. Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, removes this excessive skin and fat while tightening the abdominal muscles. Even though it sounds as simple as that, it is a complex surgery and you must be well aware of the recovery period, risks, and post-operative care before opting for a tummy tuck.

Are you a good candidate for a tummy tuck?

It is important to be in good physical and mental health before opting for any surgical procedure. Your doctor must be informed if you suffer from any serious medical conditions like heart diseases or diabetes. Additionally, you must have realistic expectations from the tummy tuck procedure. Since a surgical procedure can leave you depressed during the initial recovery period, it is important that you are choosing it for the right reasons and are emotionally stable.

When should you wait for a tummy tuck?

There are some situations wherein it is best to wait a while before opting for abdominoplasty. If you have not yet completed your family, it is best to get the procedure when you decide to not get pregnant again. This is important since a future pregnancy post your tummy tuck will stretch your skin and muscles once again and this will alter your results.

Similarly, if you wish to lose weight in the future, you must wait till you are at your ideal weight to get a tummy tuck. Any significant weight fluctuation will leave you with loose skin on the abdomen and you will have to get a surgical excision for it.

In both these scenarios, getting a tummy tuck right away will only be a waste of your time and money since you will require a correctional procedure soon to regain your tummy tuck results.
