How to prepare yourself to get a Tummy Tuck

How to prepare yourself to get a Tummy Tuck

After deciding to get a tummy tuck in Tucson AZ, there are several things you should discuss with a plastic surgeon. During your first visit you should prepare some information that the surgeon will need to know:

  • Your medical history: the doctor will want you to answer questions regarding your past and current medical history. You must let your surgeon know if you are taking any medication or if you have had surgeries before. The doctor will also want to know about your weight loss and weight gain history.

  • Physical examination: the doctor will want to determine the treatment option you have by examining your abdomen. Also, a permission to take the pictures of your abdomen to keep in your records will more than likely be requested.

  • Your expectation: you should let your doctor know the reasons why you wish to have a tummy tuck and what you want to achieve in terms of the appearance after your procedure. You have to make sure that you are aware of the risks and benefits of the procedure.

Before you undergo a tummy tuck, your doctor may recommend that you:

  • Stop smoking since smoking decreases blood flow within the skin and it may slow down your healing process. Smoking can also cause tissue damage and when you normally smoke, a doctor will request that you stop smoking before and during the healing process.

  • Avoid taking some medications like herbal supplements, anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin that may lead to too much bleeding.

  • Take medication to avoid complication; before a tummy tuck, you should begin to take anticoagulant to avoid blood clotting.

  • Arrange for help, have someone who will drive you home after the procedure and who will stay to help around the house and with kids or pets until you can recover completely.

After the procedure of removing excess fat and skin on the abdomen and restoration of the abdominal wall, you will get a toned appearance. The results you get from the procedure are long lasting but you have to ensure that you maintain a stable weight to maintain your results.
