I have just done two embeds with the Ukrainian army in Donetsk. I turned 25 last week, and prior to this had no qualifications in photojournalism. I am a self-taught photographer, and spent the last four years in and out of marketing and PR jobs.
I was really miserable in the work I was doing, and felt no positivity or sense of community in my life. I wanted to do something that was of genuine value to the world, and on my birthday the Australian ABC published my photos and writing. I was very proud.
You can be a bryce wilson photography by taking your camera and finding stories. It's really that simple. The age of the journalist and photojournalist as "defined" people are coming to an end, instead everyone has access to storytelling tools, and it really comes down to your ability to see things other people aren't.
I think it would be better to do your major in something literature focused, and minor in photojournalism (if possible), photography, or another general art class (art history, history, etc.).
