4 Technologies That Are Improving the Lives of the Elderly

One of the sad realities of life is the fact that as we get older, the simple tasks we would once take for granted become more difficult and tiresome. If this happens to somebody we love, it can be very difficult to look after them every second of every day. As we know, in the 21st century, technology is helping the world with a range of different issues – and it now appears that it can help us through the ageing process too! Technology has advanced to the point where machines and devices can offer assistance, to the point where the elderly are able to regain a level of their independence. We have put together the 4 key technologies which are helping to improve the lives of the elderly.

GrandCare

One of the best technologies which is on offer is the fantastic GrandCare system. The revolutionary technology provides the user with social communications, instructions, medication prompts and ability to communicate with friends and loved ones at the click of a button. This is very helpful to someone who is struggling with being able to do these things day-to-day. Additionally, the GrandCare system features a care portal, where caregivers and/or family can access important information about their loved ones. This allows them to know whether the other person is safe and it will give alerts if the person has not moved in a long time or if there have been any sudden movements which are out of the ordinary.

FitBit:

The general purpose if this device is to encourage people to live a healthier lifestyle – so it is not necessarily specific to the elderly. The FitBit is a band you wear on your wrist that monitors your heartrate, sleeping patterns and your general movement. It then offers you a summary and offers suggestions for how you can improve and what you can do to try and live a healthier life.

TabSafe:

This is a piece of technology which helps the elderly ensure that they are taking the correct medication on time and regularly. It offers an application which can be used on smartphones, laptops and tablets and can also give reminders when the person needs to take their medication as well as monitoring how much is left and when more needs to be purchased.

Television Ears:

A common issue which comes with old age is the loss of clear hearing in the ears. Television ears is a piece of technology which is designed to sit under the users chin (instead of blocking their ears) which allows them to hear the TV more clearly and lets them still hear the other noises around them. This lets them still socialise with other people in the room and will allow them to hear any other background noises.
