Things to look at before buying a straightening iron

Every type of straightening iron is designed for a specific type of hair. So, you need to keep in mind about important factors like material of plates, width of plates, hair type, strength of hair, and few other factors before you buy a straightening iron. The best way is to talk to a local beautician and find out which iron would work best for you because choosing a wrong type of straightening iron can damage hair permanently. To help you get started, here are some pointers you can consider before buying a straightening iron.

Plate width

Depending on the length of your hair, you need to choose the width of iron plates. If you have short hair above shoulders,1 Inch width would be fine. But, if your hair length is more than that, then you should go for larger plates. The advantage of choosing larger plates for longer hair is you need to do only a few passes to straighten your hair. This can prevent exposing your hair to too much of heat and you can save your styling time as well. If you have thick hair or extra long locks, then you should choose plates width of 2-inch. In the same way, if your hair is too thin or too short, a ¾ inch plate width would work well. If you choose larger plates for thin hair, you could burn your hair with too much of heat.

Temperature control

You can find Flat Iron with fixed temperature. The downside is it could fry your hair, especially if your hair is too delicate or is already damaged. Also, if the flat iron produces constant heat, it could overheat within a few seconds. This may not be a problem for curly hair or thick sheath of long hair. But, it could be a problem for thin, delicate, already treated hair. A better choice is to choose the flat iron with adjustable temperature control. You can also choose one with dials or digital controls that automatically adjust heat according to your hair type. In fact, choosing one with automatic temperature control is a best choice because it will automatically turn off the heat in case the iron is overheated.

Straightening irons can cause fire, burns, and other serious damages to hair or skin. So, buying a low-cost one to save money is certainly not a good idea at all. It is better to invest in good quality flat iron that has safety protection mechanism like auto-off and plastic encasing, especially if you are a bit careless in handling a flat iron.

Analyze important factors before you buy a flat iron

In the case of buying flat iron, don’t ever do an impulse buy. Take your time and study your hair type, your styling needs, and talk to your local beautician about the best type of flat iron that would fit your needs. Also, try to go for one that heats the plate evenly and has enough safety protection. It just takes a few second for a wrong flat iron to fry your hair, but you know how long it takes to get back the same hair. So, it is better to use Flat Iron with caution rather than regret later.
