In class a few days ago we got into a heated discussion about downloading music on the internet. We watched a show where we saw interviews with artists, web providers, and a major record company. The general idea was that we need to come up with creative ways to make downloading legal.
Our class came up with some ideas:
1. When a band releases their CD, if you buy it you get 5 free downloads of their songs.
2. Buy a KitKat get a free itunes download.
3. Set up a website where artists are paid to put their music on the website for free download, and get advertisers to pay the website to advertise. So it works well for everyone.
One guy suggested that we receive 3 warnings if they catch us downloading illegally, then after that they disconnect our internet. This caused much controversy with the entire class, and the group on the show. Instead of threats, we should embrace creative ideas. Find ways to make it legal.
What do you think? Do you think we should have to pay? Or do you think there should be creative ways for our artists to get paid, and still get free downloads?
