Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi

I've been told by multiple exchange students that we Australans have some strange and queer habits. In this folder I will talk about our most queer habits especially the food and our slang.

So to start with: The food

vegemite is a black, syrupy thing that you can spread on almost anything. Sorry to all the English peeps out there but vegemite tastes especially good on Scones. It has a bitter taste, but to me it tastes like sunshine in a jar. It is often put on toast, meat, bicuite and crakers. If you ever come to Australia I recommend buying a packet of Arnotts Yo-Yo biscuits and putting some vegemite on them. Trust me they are AMAZEBALLS!!!

Meat Pies

Yes, we Australians have a fetish with meat pies. Especially with tomatoe sauce. They countain a mixture of beef, gravy encased in a crusty, flaky, pastry shell.  A meat pie at the footy* is the best thing since the Internet. If you go into any bakery in Australia I can guarantee that it will have around six different types of meat pies.  Any service station you gor to will often have meat pies for sale.

Pie Floater

Okay even I'm not game enough to try this one. A pie floater is mainly a South Australian thing  which has meat pie, usually inverted, in a plate of thick green pea soup. Yes, it looks feisty, and I'm sure it tastes exactly like it looks, so the only way you could get me try this is to pay me over $100.

Kangaroo, Emu, Crocodile

The iconic animals of Australia eh. Well would you believe that these three meats are particularly tatsy. Kangaroo is a lean meat that tastes a little like beef, with a much earthier taste. Emu also tastes like this. As I haven't tasted Crocodile I can't comment on what it tastes like.

So that's the iconic foods of Australia. If you ever visit Australia, make sure you try these. Especially the Vegemite. My next post will talk about the Slang of rthe Aussies.

*Footy- means football or Aussie Rules. Typically a sport played by males. The major league of this sport is called A.F.L or Australian Footall League.
