When you imagine your dream job, what image springs to mind?
Is it one that involves working with people or behind a computer screen?
Perhaps you are already in your dream working environment and feel that this is
not the right pathway for you and would prefer to change your direction in
life. For some people, their work is not defined by how much they earn but feel
it is more important that a job offers them the ability to do what they love or
a job that gives them enough time to do the things they want to do in life. The
following jobs are considered by many to be some of the most underrated jobs in
the country and while they are not for everyone, they certainly offer an
interesting insight into how we view different career types.
While many of those in the retail industry do not see their
jobs as a pathway to greater things, some people do find retail work fun and to
be something they enjoy. If you work in a retail store you are likely to be
surrounded by new products all the time; gadgets, clothes, makeup, toys etc.
Seasonal retail is one of the most challenging areas of the retail industry as
it involves being constantly busy and on your feet which some people find
tiring, whilst others fine exciting. Furthermore many of those working in retail
enjoy being able to chat and build a report with customers.
Any job that entails caring for people is one that instantly
deserves more recognition. Those who
provide live in care can certainly put themselves in the category of
underrated employees as they have more intimate responsibilities in having to
look after people in their own homes. These employees have to be very
trustworthy and reliable as allowing someone into your home to look after you
is a big step to take for some people. They also maintain a person’s dignity
and have to work safely and professionally.
Some people may turn their nose up at the idea of cleaning
up rubbish for a living, yet many bin men claim to love their job. They enjoy
being out in the fresh air (we can ignore the occasional wafts of rubbish that
are inevitable!) and are kept active through their work. Many bin men have a
good report with one another and enjoy working as a strong and supportive team.
Some bin men have even claimed that they thoroughly enjoy seeing some of the
funny stuff people throw away! If you imagine a world without bin men, it would
certainly be far less picturesque and smelly, so it is fair to say that their
job is underrated to a great extent.
Many of us tend to take for granted the people who wake up
early and walk about come rain or shine in order to deliver us our parcels and
letters. Their jobs are underrated as we can often forget how dangerous some
neighbourhoods can be and the people who deliver our post witness this first
hand. Without them our online orders and other deliveries would be tricky to
get hold of, particularly when it comes to people who cannot drive to pick up
heavy loads such as furniture or suffer from mobility issues and depend on the
help of delivery people and post men.
