7 Weird Things That Help You Lose Weight

Let’s face it. Losing weight isn't an easy task.

For the average person, it takes extreme self-discipline and a combination of multiple weight loss methods to finally reach the desired weight.

While going on a diet and getting physical are the primary weight loss approaches for most people, there are other little things that count!

Folks, here are 7 weird tricks that can help you get the weight off.

Read on (and don’t worry if things get really weird!)

#1. Take the Furthest Spot at the Dining Table

The joys of having a dinner out cannot be described using words. We’d rather let photos do the writing!

Unfortunately, most people forget about their weight loss mission and indulge in the good food and pleasantries.

If you can’t resist the temptation of going out for dinner, sitting as far away as possible from the center spot limits your access to various dishes. You end up eating less.

#2. Sleep in Total Darkness

Yes, sleeping in a pitch-dark bedroom boosts your weight loss efforts.

And, the science behind it is not that complicated. Dark environments trigger the release of more melatonin (a sleep hormone), which sends you into a deep slumber. A good sleep boosts metabolic activities in the body.

#3. Blue is the Color of Weight Loss!

Quick question.

How many restaurants have you been to that are decorated in blue? My guess is none or very few!


The color blue doesn’t stimulate appetite! So, how about going on a shopping spree for blue cutlery?  

#4. Photograph Your Food

See, it wasn’t going to take long before we let photos do the talking!

If you’re the kind of person who keeps a food diary, it’s time to throw away that pen and start hitting the shoot button.

Keeping visual images of your food is the best way to remind yourself about the meals you took in the past. If they were unhealthy, you will sit back, reflect and probably ask yourself, “have I been eating unhealthy foods all this while?”

Thereafter, you will most likely switch to healthy meals.

#5. Pay in Cash

Before you start asking how on earth paying in cash can help you cut some pounds, think about this:

Do you feel more “painful” when buying in cash or when swiping your card at the store?

Swiping is psychologically less painful, right? It even feels like the money you’re spending isn’t yours!

So when you are shopping for groceries, buying in cash keeps your conscious of your food choices.

But when you shop with a card, your appetite for making impulse purchases increases.

And, can we agree that you aren’t going to buy kale or oranges on impulse? Instead, you’ll grab that cereal, fruit juice, canned soup or other packaged food.

#6. Don’t Eat in Front of a Television

Attentive eating keeps you mindful of your eating habits.

Clearly, eating while watching your favorite TV shows doesn’t make you an attentive eater. You will be distracted and end up eating up to 25 percent more than you should.

#7. Look into the Mirror While You Munch

Turns out people don’t like looking at themselves when they eat.

If you’re looking to lose weight, try eating in front of a mirror. As you take those yummy bites, your reflection will remind you of your weight loss goals.

Continue eating and stack up more pounds, or keep that plate away and lose some pounds. Those are the options the mirror will give you.

In addition, junk food isn’t as appealing when you eat it in front of a mirror!
