Helpful Tips And Information About Myopia

What Is Myopia

Myopia is characterized by the inability
to clearly see distant objects, but with a good view for the close objects. In
people with myopia, the eyeball is slightly longer than usual, or the cornea is
too curved. Light rays were forming the images you see in front of the ocular
ball, instead of on the retina, which is the most sensitive part of the eye to
light. When this happens, objects appear blurred or fuzzy at a distance.

Progressive myopia is predominantly genetic. Children inherit a predisposition
to manifest disease from their parents. Certain factors like working with
things that require attention and concentration to detail that need longer term
may influence the disease. If the eye muscles do not relax enough at a time,
the eye remains in a contracted state and the patient will have difficulty to
see from a distance.

What are the complications of myopia?

If myopia is not detected in time, especially before six years, it can lead to
amblyopia (lazy eye), and later blindness in the affected eye. Severe myopia
can lead to other complications severe enough on vision and eye health:

- Retinal detachment

- Macular degeneration (a medical condition in which the most sensitive part of
the retina degenerate and the central vision is affected);

Protect your eyes when working on computer

The computer must stand at a distance of about three times the diagonal
screen. If the monitor has 15 inches on diagonal, then you need to position at
a distance of 45-50 cm from the monitor. Also, there should not be the very intense brightness of the screen. The
computer must be found in an area of light is not projected onto the screen and
give the reflection. Zenni Optical, a leading manufacturer for prescription glasses, has a line of special glasses which filter the wave lenght of the monitors.

You must be working at computer no more than 90 minutes, then is necessary to
take pause for 15-20 minutes, while that you must move the eyes on the screen
of equipment. Also, it would be wise not to work more than 6-8 hours a day in front of the monitor. According to FYS,1 million americans, for example programmers, work 16 hours a day on their computer.

Foods also have an essential role. Eat a lot of green nuts, green vegetables,
which help restore pigment. It is advisable to consume as little drinks like
coca-cola, or energy drinks. But fruit juice is recommended.

Eye exercises can help, especially if it is found that there are problems of
ocular motility. For example, a person cannot keep his eyes in convergence.
Fatigue can cause various disorders of binocular vision, which can be improved
by ocular exercises.

Children who do not leave the house can become myopic

The children who spend as much time outdoors are at low risk of being affected
by myopia, according to a recent study.

Each time during a week spent in nature
reduces the risk of myopia by 2%. The benefit comes from exposure to natural
light, which is much less harmful than artificial light for children. Also,
researchers believe that the time spent on objects located remotely contribute
to better vision among the children.

American Association of Ophthalmology statistics shows that children with myopia spend on average less than 3.7 hours
outdoors in a week than children with normal vision. Unfortunately, the current
generations of children are spending less and less time in nature, preferring
computer games or television broadcasts instead of movement in nature. Also,
outdoor activities reduce the risk of diabetes and obesity, and exposure to
sunlight contributes to vitamin D intake.
